Coming up we have a light heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Rickson Dredd and Lip Ton. Ton has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 2 losses; Rickson Dredd! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 2 losses; Lip Ton! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? A momentary lapse in concentration from Ton enables Dredd to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ton manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Dredd (2) vs (0) Ton Dredd slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Score +3 for passing guard: Dredd (5) vs (0) Ton Ton looks winded! Dredd wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ton, who protects the arm well. Dredd tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dredd has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Ton told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Ton tries to improve position but can't. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dredd is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ton is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Ton tries to bench press Dredd off him but Dredd keeps the position. Ton is not content to let Dredd control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dredd controls the position. Ton is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Dredd is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ton is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Dredd is working to tighten his grip on Ton's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Ton has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Dredd is really squeezing tight and eventually Ton passes out! Dredd breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
