TWGC 13 (205lbs, D2): New York Qualifier - Round 1 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a light heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Tung Fo and Scott Fleming. Fleming has chosen T.N.T. as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Scott Fleming told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Tung Fo! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Scott Fleming!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Jorge Garcia and David Schapiro.


Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious?
Fo shoots for a double leg takedown but Fleming sprawls well. He's pushed Fo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Fo closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Fleming did well to prevent Fo getting side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Fleming has managed to free his arm - good work.
Fleming moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Fo looking to pass the guard.
Fleming looking to control.
Fo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fleming swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Fleming is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Fo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fo is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Fleming is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Fleming has escaped and now he's on top!

Fo has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Fleming wants to work for an arm triangle but Fo is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Fleming is trying to control. Fo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Fo tries to get to full guard but Fleming has control of the leg.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Fo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Fleming dives on top into guard.

Fleming told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Fo wants to sweep but no luck.

Fleming passes Fo's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Fo is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fleming pulls his head out easily.

Fleming looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Fleming works his foot free and advances to mount.

Fo keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Fleming trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Fleming has control of Fo's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Fo regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Fo wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Fleming is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Fo taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Fleming.
