The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Horrible takedown attempt by Jason or perhaps it was just good defense by Garcia, which made it look bad. Jason is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jason gets caught flat footed, as Garcia shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Garcia (2) vs (0) Jason Garcia passes easily into side control. Nice work. Score +3 for passing guard: Garcia (5) vs (0) Jason
Garcia is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jason is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Garcia wants to control but Jason is keeping him busy.
Garcia thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jason gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Score +2 for reaching mount: Garcia (7) vs (0) Jason Jason is wriggling around trying to escape.
Garcia with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Garcia quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Garcia but it's paid off an Jason is forced to tap! Nice work by Garcia.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Haislan Garcia! |
