Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Russell Wallace! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
16 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dexter Santaros! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Andrew Berry and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wallace looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Wallace clinches. Wallace is pressed up against the cage. Santaros has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Wallace down to the mat. Wallace avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Wallace throws a lazy right hand but Santaros sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Wallace uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Santaros. Wallace fails in his attempt to clinch. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Wallace. A jab from Wallace misses. Wallace has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Marijuana Gardens in the buildup to the fight. Wallace will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Santaros has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Wallace creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Wallace lands a nice elbow.
It looks like Dexter Santaros has been cut. Wallace is defending well against a takedown attempt. Santaros blocks a body shot from Wallace. Wallace is pushing Santaros up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Wallace misses with the head strike.

Wallace dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Santaros. That did some damage! Wallace takes a swing at Santaros's ribcage but misses. It seemed like Santaros was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Wallace keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Wallace lands with an uppercut that bounces Santaros off the cage and back into range. Wallace lands a nice shot that snaps Santaros's head back.

Not much technique there but it did the business. Russell Wallace is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Santaros takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Santaros pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Wallace tumbling to the mat - Santaros dives into Wallace's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Wallace wants to sweep here but Santaros controlling him for the moment. Santaros working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. That kick from Wallace tenderised Santaros's leg. Santaros is trying to keep his angry face on. Santaros uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Wallace. An inside leg kick from Wallace misses. It seemed like Santaros was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Wallace lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Russell Wallace. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wallace, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
