Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Herman Medina! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcos Antonio! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Medina goes for a double leg but Antonio avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Antonio continues to drive forward. Antonio gets the takedown into side control. Medina is looking for a sweep. Antonio wants to control but Medina is keeping him busy. Medina tries to bench press Antonio off him but Antonio keeps the position. Antonio decides to stand back up. Antonio steps back and let's Medina get back to his feet. Antonio tries to close the distance and clinch but Medina swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Medina closes the distance and clinches. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Medina tries to pull guard but Antonio forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Medina wants to take the fight to the mat but Antonio manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Herman Medina. That's going to take a lot out of him. Medina tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Antonio just stands there and leans against the cage. Antonio pulls guard effortlessly. Antonio managing to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Antonio is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Antonio has control of Medina's left arm, preventing Medina from doing any damage. Antonio is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Medina is aware though and is defending well. Medina is looking to stand up but Antonio won't let him. Medina decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Antonio wants to clinch up but Medina keeps it at a distance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Antonio drives through with a takedown into guard. Antonio trying to control the position from guard on top but Medina is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Antonio is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Medina wants to stand and escape but Antonio is having none of it. Antonio passes Medina's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Antonio not doing much here.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Medina wants to control but Antonio is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Medina is kicking away at Antonio from the bottom - trying to push off and stand up. Antonio grabs hold of a leg and drops back for a heel hook! The two fighters roll across the mat, with Medina trying to push Antonio off... Medina taps! He's tapped! This one is all over! A throwback to the old Pancrase there with an infrequently seen submission hold! Nice work.
