PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Zander Harland (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mustafa Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harland comes to the cage accompanied by We Don't Know. Mustafa Khan will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Zander Harland!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mustafa Khan!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Phil Schofield and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan is trying hard to land a takedown here. Harland sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Khan throws a sloppy head kick and Harland moves out of range easily.

Khan pushes Harland off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Harland is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Khan has gone for a leg lock! Harland slips out almost immediately though and dives into Khan's guard.

Khan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Harland doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Harland manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Harland is looking to take a break and control but Khan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Harland looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Khan with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Harland's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Harland connects with a nice short shot to Khan's temple.

Khan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Harland as he jumps to the side.

Khan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Khan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Harland knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Harland regains half guard, as Khan was trying to land strikes.

Khan is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Khan is working for a kimura but Harland is defending it quite comfortably.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mustafa Khan will probably get the nod.

Good work by Harland as he checks the leg kick.
Khan shoots in looking for a takedown. Harland tries to sprawl out of it but Khan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Harland manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Harland changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Harland takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Harland closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Khan's guard.

Khan manages to escape and get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Khan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Khan wants to get up but he can't break Harland's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Harland is trying to control the position but Khan postures up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Mustafa Khan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Khan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Harland defends well and Khan ends up having to push Harland into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Zander Harland has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mustafa Khan.

Khan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Harland manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Khan has Harland in his guard.

Mustafa Khan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Khan shoots in for a double leg but Harland sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
It looked like Harland wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Khan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Harland defends it easily.

Harland stands up over Khan, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Khan has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Harland is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Khan.
