The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Martinez as he jumps to the side.
Penn shoots in looking for a takedown. Martinez tries to sprawl out of it but Penn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Martinez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Penn counters with a nice double leg into side control. Martinez won't be happy with that.
Martinez is looking to regain half guard here but Penn keeps moving and retains side control.

Martinez manages to reverse the position and now he's in Penn's guard. Nice work there by Martinez.
Martinez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Penn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Martinez loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Penn counters with a shoot takedown. Martinez fights it but they end up in guard.

Martinez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Penn wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
BJ Penn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Martinez is trying to control Penn's posture but Penn avoids it.
Penn has control of an arm but Martinez manages to advance to Penn's back!
Martinez just trying to survive but Penn is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Penn has got one arm under Martinez's chin. This could be trouble... Martinez trying to control the other hand but Penn gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Martinez has tapped out! The fight is over!
