PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Isaiah Padilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeremy Jasper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Isaiah Padilla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeremy Jasper!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Sam Margolis and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jasper throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jasper misses with a double jab.

Padilla takes the fight into the clinch.
Jasper lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Padilla backwards.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Jasper creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Jasper breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Padilla showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Jasper.
Padilla slips a jab and a cross from Jasper.
Padilla wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Jasper throws a left and a right that both miss
and Padilla counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Jasper is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Padilla fails with a takedown attempt.

Padilla moves into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stalling in the clinch from Padilla.
Padilla tries to break free but Jasper pushes him back against the cage.

Jasper escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Padilla stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Padilla manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Jasper loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Padilla wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Padilla really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jasper trying to control but Padilla is working from the bottom.
Jasper working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Jasper must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Jasper throws a big right hand that misses.
Padilla is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Jasper looking to sit in guard and control but Padilla gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Padilla content to stall in guard here.
Jasper trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Jasper is looking to stand up but Padilla isn't so interested in that idea.
Padilla lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Padilla cracks Jasper with a solid left hand.
Jasper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Padilla. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Padilla with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jasper throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jasper can do anything to dispel that myth.
Padilla is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Jasper is trying to keep Padilla in close.
Padilla is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Padilla thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Jasper is looking to stand back up but Padilla counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Jasper.
Padilla has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Padilla stops Jasper from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jasper wants to control but Padilla is keeping busy.
Jasper looks like he's trying to stand up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Padilla has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Jasper defend it? Padilla steps over the head and cranks it - Jasper is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Padilla!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:13 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Isaiah Padilla!
