TWGC 13 (205lbs, D4): Los Angeles Qualifier - Round 2 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a light heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Jim Leen and Wymond Ivy. Leen comes to the cage accompanied by Marine Corps Hymn. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Jim Leen! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Wymond Ivy!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Frank Antenori.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

and Leen counters by clinching up.

Leen ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Leen no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Ivy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ivy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We've been hearing good reports from Leen's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Leen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ivy doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ivy manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Leen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Leen has his foot on Ivy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ivy works his way back into a safe position though.

Leen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ivy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ivy slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Ivy jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Leen manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Leen is looking to regain half guard here but Ivy keeps moving and retains side control.

Ivy goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Leen has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Ivy but great work by Leen.

Ivy is not content to let Leen control the position.

Leen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ivy has escaped the position, nice work there.

Leen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Leen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

You can see the frustration on Ivy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Ivy is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Leen defends it well.

Ivy is working for a kimura but Leen is defending it quite comfortably.

Ivy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Leen manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ivy has Leen in his guard.

Leen has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Leen wants to control the pace but Ivy is squirming around nicely.
Ivy stops Leen from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Leen looking to break Ivy's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Ivy remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Leen will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Leen goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Ivy turns into him and now he's in Leen's guard.

Leen can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ivy controls the pace.
Ivy wants to control from the top but Leen keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Leen is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Leen takes the fight on points by 14 to 8.
