PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joos Frank (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz has chosen Eminem-Lose Yourself as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Joos Frank has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Joos Frank!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nate Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Dirk Anderson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Frank. Those never looked like landing.
Diaz goes for a double leg but Frank avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Frank continues to drive forward.
Frank looks to land a combination but Diaz avoids it well.
Diaz throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Diaz closes the distance and clinches.

Diaz manages to break the clinch.

Diaz gets caught flat footed, as Frank shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Diaz pushes Frank off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Frank leaves Diaz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Diaz closes the distance and pushes Frank back into the cage.

Diaz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Diaz scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Diaz rushes Frank and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Frank has hold of one of Diaz's legs. Diaz is fighting the takedown attempt but Frank gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Diaz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Diaz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Diaz wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Frank is now in half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Diaz lands a couple of sideways elbows.
Diaz is looking to control Frank's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Diaz avoid being mounted?
Frank really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Diaz tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Frank wants to free his trapped foot but Diaz is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Diaz is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Frank pulls his head out easily.

Frank wants to control but Diaz is keeping him busy.
Frank perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Diaz actively working from the bottom here.
Frank will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Frank is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Diaz is looking to get to half guard.

Frank controlling from mount.
Diaz bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Frank keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully.

Diaz drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Frank manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Diaz has Frank in his guard.

Frank working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Diaz's head.
Diaz throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Frank is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Frank stands up from guard. Let's bang!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nate Diaz will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Diaz works the jab nicely.
Diaz goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Frank shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Diaz napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Frank just content to control the position.

Frank decides to stand back up.
Diaz avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Frank tries to score a power double leg takedown but Diaz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Frank somewhat.
Diaz is looking for the big counter here.
A nice inside leg kick there by Frank. That's going to slow Diaz down.

Diaz has taken the fight to the clinch.

Diaz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Frank looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Diaz!
Frank wants to control but Diaz is keeping him busy.
Frank taking a breather here.
Frank is looking to take a break and control but Diaz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Frank stands up.

Frank drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Diaz is looking for a sweep.
Frank tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Diaz explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Diaz darts in and clinches Frank up against the cage.
A left hand lands to the body for Diaz.
Frank is trying to maintain a safe position but Diaz gets an underhook and turns Frank into the cage.

Diaz breaks the clinch.
A punch combination from Diaz misses.
An attempted straight right counter from Frank misses the target.
Diaz misses with a few strikes there.
Frank tries to counter with a takedown but Diaz is quick to defend against it.
Diaz throws a series of punches but Frank avoids them all with ease.
Diaz is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Frank slips a jab and a cross from Diaz.
Diaz throws a chopping leg kick but Frank manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Nate Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Frank circles away from the clinch attempt.

Frank fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Diaz sprawls well initially but Frank persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Diaz wants to get back to full guard.
Frank controlling the pace.
Frank has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Frank stands up out of the half guard.

Frank fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Frank throws the kick towards the body but Diaz avoids it.
Diaz fails with an attempt to clinch.
Diaz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Frank's waist but Frank gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Diaz off to one side.

Diaz has an active guard here but Frank has managed to pass into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Frank lands a nice short elbow.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Joos Frank will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Diaz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Diaz tries to stand but can't do so whilst Frank controls his leg.
Frank is staying active underneath Diaz, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Diaz in particular looking to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz stalling away here and it's allowed Frank to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Frank wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Frank tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Frank managing to control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Diaz throws a hook but Frank blocks it.
Frank swings for the body but Diaz moves out of range.
Diaz dodges the punch combination from Frank.
Diaz steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Frank.

Diaz drives through and clinches with Frank against the cage.

Diaz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Joos Frank is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Diaz throws the left hand but Frank avoids the punch easily.

Diaz gets a clinch.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Frank.
Diaz working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Diaz lands with a short shot to the head.
Diaz looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Frank misses with some punches.

Diaz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Frank connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Diaz momentarily.
Diaz takes a kick to the side of the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
No joy there for Diaz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Diaz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Diaz misses with a double jab.
Diaz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Diaz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Frank manages to escape and get back to his feet!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diaz swats away the attempt to clinch by Frank.
Diaz throws a body kick that misses.

Frank forces Diaz back against the cage and clinches.
Diaz tries to break the clinch but Frank is controlling the position.
Frank is pressed up against the cage. Diaz has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Frank down to the mat. Frank avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Frank cracks the inside of Diaz's front leg.

Frank shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Frank was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Frank stands up and beckons Diaz to his feet.

Frank instigates a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Frank tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Diaz just stands there and leans against the cage.
Frank lands a damaging elbow.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Diaz is trying to break the clinch but Frank has him pressed against the cage.
Frank drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Diaz gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Frank gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Frank controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Diaz can't keep his opponent in guard - Frank advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Frank moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Diaz.
Frank is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Diaz's shoulder. That is not cool.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joos Frank showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Frank has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
