Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Cruz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, King Edward! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Edward has taken the fight to the clinch.

Cruz blocks an elbow strike from Edward.
Edward pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Edward shoots for a double leg takedown but Cruz sprawls well. He's pushed Edward's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Edward misses the shot to the body. Cruz was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Edward darts in and clinches Cruz up against the cage. Edward is trying to break free. Cruz breaks the clinch.

Edward gets tackled into the cage by Cruz. Cruz maintains the clinch. Edward is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Cruz to keep the fight standing. Edward working aggressively here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cruz stalling.

I was talking to Cruz's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Cruz scores with a hook to the body. Cruz landing knees to the body.
Edward looks winded! Edward misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Cruz is working Edward over against the cage. Cruz pulls guard successfully.
Cruz managing to control the position. Cruz wriggles free and stands up. Cruz pushes Edward up against the cage in a clinch. A head punch blocked on the inside by Cruz. Edward's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Cruz obliges. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Edward tries to circle away but Cruz has him pinned against the cage. Cruz lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. A body shot lands from Cruz.

Edward dodges the punch combination from Cruz.
Cruz moves into the clinch. The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Cruz lands a left hand.
Edward lands a takedown into guard.
Cruz has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Edward has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Cruz lands a hook that snaps the head of Edward backwards. Edward throws a knee to the head but misses.
Cruz manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz lands an elbow just above Edward 's eye. Cruz unloads a knee to the mid-section. Edward lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. Cruz lands a knee to the body.

Cruz lands a shoulder strike. Cruz lands an uppercut. Cruz holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Edward wants a takedown.
Ricardo Cruz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of King Edward. Cruz crunches a lovely knee into Edward's ribcage. Cruz connects with a nasty looking knee right to Edward's face.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Cruz jumps guard and drags Edward to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Cruz wants to stand and escape but Edward is having none of it. Edward preventing the sweep. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Edward stops Cruz from standing up. Edward stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cruz swivels though and keeps the full guard. Cruz working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Edward. Edward has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Cruz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Edward stops Cruz from standing up. Cruz is looking for a triangle but Edward pushes his legs off easily.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Edward stops Cruz from standing up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Cruz moves into range and clinches up with Edward. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. A short uppercut from Edward. Edward is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Cruz is defending well for now. Cruz lands an elbow inside. Cruz is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ricardo Cruz dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Cruz tries to close the distance and clinch but Edward swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Edward throws a hook but Cruz blocks it. Cruz tries to counter by clinching up but Edward breaks away and moves out of range. Edward shoots in for a takedown but Cruz shows good takedown defense. Cruz displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Edward drives through and clinches with Cruz against the cage.
Edward tries to work over Cruz's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Edward throws a knee to the head but misses.

Ricardo Cruz has scored more points in the clinch so far. A nice right hand lands inside from Cruz. A short right hand to the side of the head by Cruz. Edward working aggressively here.

Edward drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cruz pulls his leg out and moves away.
Cruz closes the distance and pushes Edward back into the cage. Cruz lands with a light punch inside. Edward is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Edward fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Ricardo Cruz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of King Edward. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Cruz creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Cruz pushes Edward back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Edward jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cruz walks away with a smile on his face. Edward gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Edward clinches. Edward using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Cruz has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Cruz gets through Edward's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Cruz is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body. Cruz lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. A knee to the head by Cruz.
Edward throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Cruz blocks it with crossed arms. Cruz makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cruz crunches a lovely knee into Edward's ribcage. Good body shot from Cruz.
Cruz lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
A short body shot lands from Cruz as the two fighters clinch.
Cruz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Edward takes a body punch but keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cruz gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Cruz prevents a body shot from Edward. Cruz works on Edward's body with a couple of short punches. Cruz breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cruz misses with a head kick.
Edward takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Cruz rushes Edward and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Cruz connects with a knee to the head.
Edward is rocked! Cruz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Edward can do to turn this around? Cruz connects with a knee to the head.
Edward is still on wobbly legs! Can Cruz finish him? Come on Cruz - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Cruz lands a hook to the side of the head. Cruz cracks Edward with a nice body shot. Cruz lands a damaging elbow. Cruz jerks Edward's head down, straight into the path of a devastating knee! Edward drops to the floor in a crumpled heap! Cruz goes to throw a finishing haymaker but pulls out - good sportsmanship from Cruz because Edward was completely out of it. That was a nice finish - just the right level of brutality to send everyone home happy.
