PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Orville Fuentes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Orville Fuentes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jim Bob!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, John Roberts and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fuentes gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Bob is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Bob pushing down on Fuentes's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Bob drops an elbow to the side of Fuentes's head.

Fuentes looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fuentes tries to roll over but Bob keeps him under control.
Bob slips a nice elbow through Fuentes's hands, connecting with Fuentes's forehead.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fuentes wants to get back to full guard.

Bob stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Bob rushes Fuentes and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Bob has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Fuentes avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Fuentes tries to pull guard but Bob won't allow it.
Fuentes could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Bob successfully pulls guard.
Bob seems keen to control Fuentes's posture.

Bob escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fuentes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Fuentes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Bob pushes Fuentes off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bob shoots in but Fuentes avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Fuentes is looking to counter with head kicks.
Bob fails to land the takedown.
Orville Fuentes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Bob.

Bob moves into the clinch successfully.
Fuentes jumps guard but Bob stands there with Fuentes around his waist. Fuentes gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Bob - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Bob breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bob pushes Fuentes up against the cage in a clinch.
Fuentes is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Bob is defending well.

Bob escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Bob fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Fuentes, pushing him back against the cage.
Fuentes jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bob walks away with a smile on his face. Fuentes gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Bob throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Fuentes was covering up waiting for the punch and Bob finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Bob decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Bob is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Fuentes's half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fuentes trying to hold on to Bob's head to control him but Bob postures up.
Fuentes won't allow Bob to pass to mount.
Bob scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bob lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Ground and pound from Bob.

Bob is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Fuentes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bob wants to work for an arm triangle but Fuentes is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Bob is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Bob dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Jim Bob has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fuentes loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Bob is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Bob manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Fuentes keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Fuentes tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bob smiles and moves away.
Jim Bob seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bob closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Fuentes quickly recovers to half guard.

Fuentes wants to get back to full guard.

Bob passes the guard and advances to mount!

Bob goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Fuentes is on top in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Bob manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fuentes tries to pull guard but Bob won't allow it.

Bob has hold of one of Fuentes's legs. Fuentes is fighting the takedown attempt but Bob gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Fuentes will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Bob got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fuentes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bob has managed to get both his arms back between Fuentes's legs - danger averted.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bob stands up from Fuentes's guard - Bob perhaps looking for a knockout.
Bob connects with a nice looking jab.
Bob closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fuentes circles away.
Fuentes went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Bob gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Fuentes counters with a one-two to the body.

Bob instigates a clinch.
Bob is looking to take this one to the mat.
Orville Fuentes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Bob.
Fuentes wants to break the clinch but can't.

Fuentes tries to circle away but Bob has him pinned against the cage.
Fuentes fails to pull guard.
Bob stalling.

Fuentes turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Bob throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Bob showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Bob seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fuentes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Bob winds up and cracks Fuentes with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Bob in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Fuentes tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Bob!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jim Bob!
