TWGC 13 (135lbs, D2): Finals - Round 1 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a bantamweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Josh Miller and Lin Shui. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the bantamweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 0 losses; Josh Miller! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 1 losses; Lin Shui!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Paul Aken and Saam Ante.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Miller moves into the clinch.
Shui drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Miller tries for a takedown but Shui manages to get underhooks.
Miller wants a takedown.

Miller is trying to trip Shui. He has hold of a leg but Shui is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Miller persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Shui lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Shui passes into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Miller tries to roll over but Shui keeps him under control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shui is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Miller defends it well.
Shui seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Miller does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Miller is on top in guard.

Shui is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Miller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shui swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Shui has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Miller is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Shui.

Miller is stalling here. Shui is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Miller seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Shui has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

You can see the frustration on Miller's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Miller is not content to let Shui control the position.
Shui might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Miller haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Miller wants to control but Shui postures up.
Miller is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Shui tries to move into full mount but can't pass Miller's legs.
Shui is looking to take a break and control but Miller is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Shui goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Miller has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Shui but great work by Miller.

Miller has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Shui!

Shui wants to control but Miller is having none of it.

Miller is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Shui is surviving well by controlling Miller's body position as best he can.

Shui is looking to improve his position but Miller isn't that keen on the idea.
Miller tries to control but Shui wriggling away.
Shui reaches up to try and control the position but Miller seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Shui rolls and tries to escape and now Miller has his back!

Miller just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Miller is looking for the choke from the back position but Shui is controlling his hands well.
A lull in the action here.
Shui felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Miller has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Shui's body.
Miller has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Shui is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Shui manages to reverse the position and now he's in Miller's guard. Nice work there by Shui.

Shui looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Miller puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Still in half guard, Miller seems content to control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Miller takes the fight on points by 18 to 8.
Josh Miller seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
In defeat, Lin Shui stepped up to the mic, saying 'No worries. Everyone knows my opponent here has a very bad habit of testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, so I'm confident this fight will soon be ruled a 'No-Contest.''.
