PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kendrik Down (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Cabrillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Down comes to the cage accompanied by Let's Go. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kendrik Down!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Juan Cabrillo!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cabrillo ducks right into an uppercut from Down.
Cabrillo swinging wildly here.
Down throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Cabrillo sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Down has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Westside Martial Arts in the buildup to the fight.
Cabrillo misses with a looping right.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Cabrillo has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Down lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Down moves out of range of the strikes.

Kendrik Down seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cabrillo swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Down throws out a loose jab but Cabrillo uses good head movement to avoid it.

Down shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cabrillo as he jumps to the side.

Cabrillo throws a nice looking combination but Down bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

It looked like Down was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Cabrillo.

Down scores with a one two! Cabrillo had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Cabrillo tries to move into range but Down moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Horrible takedown attempt by Down or perhaps it was just good defense by Cabrillo, which made it look bad.

Down changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cabrillo fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Down scores with a hook to the body. Cabrillo takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Down tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Down is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.

Down takes one on the chin but seems OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kendrik Down will probably get the nod.
That's time! Down's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Down is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.


It looks like Kendrik Down has been cut.
Down moves into range and connects with a jab.
Cabrillo looks to score with a jab to the body but Down is just out of range.

Down throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Cabrillo swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Down counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Cabrillo clobbers Down with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Down will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Cabrillo decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Down's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cabrillo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Down not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cabrillo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Down is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Cabrillo off and has taken his back!

Juan Cabrillo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cabrillo cracks Down with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Down lands a glancing blow to the side of Cabrillo's head.
Cabrillo walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Cabrillo lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
A jab lands there for Cabrillo.
A punch combination from Down misses.
Down shoots in and drives through. Cabrillo sprawls well.
Cabrillo throws a hook but Down avoids it easily.

Down is rocked!
Cabrillo scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Oh Down is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Juan Cabrillo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Down takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Down's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Cabrillo connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Down scrambles back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cabrillo lands with a big left! Down is wobbled badly! Cabrillo comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Down to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:06 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Juan Cabrillo!
Juan Cabrillo decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
Kendrik Down spoke after the fight, saying 'Don't Worry about it!!!'.
