Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Barry Lawrence! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Clement Dubois! The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Hugh Johnson and Ron Honeybunn.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dubois darts in and clinches Lawrence up against the cage. Lawrence fails to pull guard.
Lawrence pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Dubois lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Dubois bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Lawrence's head. Lawrence has a takedown stuffed. Dubois misses with a series of wild punches.
Lawrence scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Dubois is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Lawrence is controlling him well. Dubois tries to bench press Lawrence off him but Lawrence keeps the position. Lawrence really is a fat lump. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Dubois manages to work his way to half guard, despite Lawrence's best efforts. Dubois moves into full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dubois has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Lawrence is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Dubois. Dubois tries to get back to half guard but can't. Dubois is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Lawrence has just dragged him back down to the mat. Dubois is trying to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Dubois gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Lawrence is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Dubois is just riding it out for now. Lawrence eventually gives up the hold. Dubois wants to get back to his feet. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lawrence is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Dubois shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lawrence napping and manages to drive through into side control! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dubois is working to tighten his grip on Lawrence's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Lawrence has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Dubois is really squeezing tight and eventually Lawrence passes out! Dubois breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Clement Dubois! A relieved looking Clement Dubois thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
