The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newell takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
It looks like Micah Newell has been cut.
Newell clinches.
Newell stalling the fight.
Blake is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Blake can't break the clinch.
Newell has Blake pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Newell pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Blake tumbling to the mat - Newell dives into Blake's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Blake looking for a guillotine here but Newell defends easily.

Blake lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Newell!
Blake wants to control the pace but Newell is squirming around nicely.

Blake has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Newell rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Blake is looking to advance position but Newell won't allow it.

Newell is staying active underneath Blake, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Blake is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Newell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Newell is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Blake throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Blake is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Newell wants to improve his position but Blake is controlling well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Newell fails in his attempt to clinch.
A combination from Newell does no damage.
Newell closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Blake to the mat! Blake manages to get full guard.
Newell postures up in Blake's guard and throws a big left but Blake blocks it.
Blake escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Newell gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Newell drops back looking for a leg! Blake is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Blake manages to kick Newell off! Newell jumps back into Blake's guard.
Newell looks gassed!
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Newell postures up.
Blake had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Newell is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Blake Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Newell's back instead.
Blake lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Newell is trapped and Blake is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Blake has the hooks in. Newell is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
The referee is taking a good look at Newell as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Blake!
Blake is hanging on to Newell's back as he tries to escape.
Blake is cranking Newell's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Newell! He's tightened the choke and Newell is tapping out!
