PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Travis Bickle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kelvin Bang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bickle comes into the arena with Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 1, fighting out of London, Travis Bickle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kelvin Bang!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bickle checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
We've been informed that Bang has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Bickle attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Bickle throws a looping overhand right but Bang ducks down to avoid it.
Bickle throws a low kick but Bang moves out of range easily.
Bang wants to counter with a clinch but Bickle pushes him away.
Bang connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Bang throws a half hearted mid kick.
A little feinted left hand from Bickle on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Travis Bickle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bang's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Bickle connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Bang scrambles back to his feet.
Bickle misses with an uppercut.
Bickle lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Bang tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bang fails with an attempt to clinch.
Bickle appears to be looking for a big counter.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bickle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bickle connects with a good right hand that stumbles Bang. Bang circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Bang throws a quick inside leg kick.
Bickle shoots and misses

and Bang counters by moving into the clinch.

Bang can't find room to land a body shot as Bickle controls the action.
Bang has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Bickle after a bit of a struggle.
Bickle missing with knees to the body.
Bickle has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Bickle keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Bang's efforts to push away.
A nice right hand lands inside from Bang.
Bang blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Bang tries to land a knee to the head but Bickle blocks with his arms.
Bang fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Bang can't get the takedown.
Bang wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Bickle has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bang is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Travis Bickle. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bang has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Bickle wants a takedown.
Bang lands a left hand that snaps the head of Bickle backwards.
Bickle stops a takedown attempt from Bang.
Bang wants to take the fight to the mat but Bickle manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

A short left from Bickle.
Bang creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Bickle's defenses.
Bickle is looking for a takedown.

Bang is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Bickle can't fight it off and eventually Bang manages to take the fight to the floor. Bickle looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bickle trying to control the position.
Bang forces his way into half guard.
Bang working Bickle over with strikes.
Bickle tries to roll over but Bang keeps him under control.
Bang thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bickle's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bickle wants to get back to full guard.
Bang wants to take a breather but Bickle is having none of it.
Bang wants to pass to mount but Bickle is defending the position.
Bang looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bickle with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Bickle wants to get back to full guard.

Bickle actively working from the bottom here.
Bickle is trying to get back to full guard.
Bang throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Bang not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bickle tries to roll over but Bang keeps him under control.
Bickle pushes Bang off looking to stand but Bang dives back in and keeps control.

Bang is working for a kimura but Bickle is defending it quite comfortably.
Bickle is looking for a sweep. Bang is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bang checks a low kick from Bickle.
Bang scores with a nice body kick.
Bickle lands a really nice looking cross but Bang seems unphased.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kelvin Bang dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Bickle avoids the head kick by Bang.
Bickle throws a looping overhand right but Bang ducks down to avoid it.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Bickle, right into the meat.
Bickle tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bang sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bickle somewhat.
Despite the aggression on Bang's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Bickle throws a combination. Bang tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Bickle shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bang but Bang pushes him off and we're back to square one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bang shoots in and gets a takedown into Bickle's guard.
Bang advances to half guard.
Bickle works his way to full guard. Good work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bickle looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Bang got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bickle has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bang has managed to get both his arms back between Bickle's legs - danger averted.
Bang is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Bickle is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bang defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bang looking to sit in guard and control but Bickle gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Bang is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bickle is aware though and is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bang has momentary wrist control but Bickle slips an elbow through the middle.
Bickle has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Bang is trying to control the position from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bang is on top in guard.

Bang pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bickle is keeping the position for now.
Kelvin Bang has got the better of the ground game so far.

Bickle looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bang is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Bang is posturing up here but Bickle has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Bang tries to roll out but it's too tight and Bang has to tap! Slick submission there by Bickle!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Travis Bickle!
After the fight, Travis Bickle was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
