Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Reed Money! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Demian Maia! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Steven Brown and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maia takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Money lands a right hook to the body.
Money misses with a few strikes there.
Maia with the counter takedown but Money avoids it easily. Maia shoots in but Money avoids the takedown attempt easily. Maia has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Money finds it's way round the side to connect with Maia's head. Money lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Money keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Maia. Money lands a nice hook to Maia's body. Maia takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Maia gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Money seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Maia shoots in for a takedown but Money shows good takedown defense. As Maia tries to get set, Money tries to push him back and clinch up but Maia manages to avoid the attempt. Decent striking displayed by Money there. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Money scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Maia takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
That's one minute gone in the round. Money fails to land with a series of punches.
Money darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Maia wants to land a leg kick but Money is out of range. Maia fails with an attempt to clinch.
Money slaps away a takedown attempt from Maia, before circling back to the center of the mat. Reed Money has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Demian Maia. Maia swings widly with a right hand
and Maia takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. The fight stays on the outside here - Maia looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Money lands a head shot. Oooooh!!! Money has knocked Maia down with a huge combo! Money steps away and waves a wobbly Maia back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Maia is rocked!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Maia throws a right and a left that both miss. Maia is still on wobbly legs! Can Money finish him? Maia fails with the takedown and Money counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Maia takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Maia seems to have recovered his senses. Maia looks winded! Money avoids the body shot from Maia.
A decent looking cross lands there for Money. Money thuds a left hand into Maia's body. Maia gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Maia tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Money is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Maia buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Maia!! Maia is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Money throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Reed Money! Reed Money decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
