Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chris Barath (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Salva Gomez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Barath!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Salva Gomez!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barath shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gomez steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Barath.
Barath circles away from the clinch attempt
and Barath counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Gomez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Gomez gets a clinch.
Gomez struggles to land a body shot inside as Barath controls his hands.
Barath jumps guard but Gomez turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Barath. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barath pushes Gomez back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Barath blocking some punches.
Barath tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gomez just stands there and leans against the cage.
Barath wants to stall.

Barath shoots in looking for a takedown. Gomez tries to sprawl out of it but Barath keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gomez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Gomez gets a clinch.
Gomez stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Barath drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Gomez gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Come on Gomez - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Barath breaks the clinch.
Barath misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gomez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Barath moves away.
Gomez is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Barath.
Gomez tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Barath counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Chris Barath seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Barath dives in for a single leg takedown but Gomez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Barath shoots in for a takedown but Gomez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Gomez doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Barath counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

The referee calls for Gomez to work.
Barath is looking to control Gomez's arms but Gomez gets an underhook and turns him. Now Barath has his back to the cage.
Gomez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Barath wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Gomez pulls Barath into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gomez is on top in guard.

Gomez postures up in Barath's guard and throws a big left but Barath blocks it.
Gomez throws a big elbow that misses.
Gomez works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Gomez missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Gomez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gomez trying to control from half guard but Barath is working away.
Gomez thows a huge punch but Barath dodges it nicely.

Gomez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Barath does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Barath avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Gomez.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barath tries to roll over but Gomez keeps him under control.
Barath is breathing heavily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Gomez is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Barath is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
