Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roberto Fantastico (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Riley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Riley is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Get Up. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roberto Fantastico!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Riley!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Jonathan Paton and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riley is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Riley keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Riley wants to clinch.
Riley paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.


It looks like Roberto Fantastico has been cut.
Riley is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Riley swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Fantastico.

Fantastico swats away the attempt to clinch by Riley.
Fantastico drops his hands momentarily and Riley takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.


Roberto Fantastico's cut is getting worse.
Riley is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Riley has his takedown stuffed

and Fantastico counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Riley wants to control but Fantastico is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Riley is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Fantastico is staying active.
Fantastico stops Riley from getting back to his feet.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Riley looking for subs off his back but Fantastico has passed one foot through into half guard.
Riley is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Fantastico is thwarting Riley's attempts to control the position.
Riley flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastico is keen to just control but Riley is a slippery customer.

Riley tries to kick Fantastico off but Fantastico keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Riley tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Fantastico counters with a nice double leg into side control. Riley won't be happy with that.
Riley pushes Fantastico away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Fantastico gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Fantastico is trying to get an arm triangle but Riley is defending well.

Fantastico is looking to take a break and control but Riley is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Fantastico wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Riley, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Riley wants to control but Fantastico postures up.
Riley is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Fantastico off and has taken his back!

Can Fantastico hold on?! Riley is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Riley connects with a big shot to the side of Fantastico's head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Riley is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Fantastico defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Fantastico might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Riley is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Fantastico. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Riley smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Riley has his takedown stuffed

and Fantastico decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Riley's guard.
Riley is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Riley wants to stand up but Fantastico has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Riley looking for a submission but Fantastico manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

Fantastico has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Riley is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Fantastico.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Riley wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fantastico keeps working.
Fantastico dodges the ground and pound from Riley.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Riley tries to move to mount but Fantastico blocks the move with his legs.
Riley lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Riley tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Riley has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Riley is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Fantastico has escaped the position, nice work there.
Fantastico struggling a bit here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Riley is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Fantastico knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Fantastico is looking for a sweep.

Riley stands up.
Riley pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Fantastico takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Riley throws a nice outside leg kick.

and Fantastico counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Riley working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fantastico doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fantastico manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Riley is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Riley bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Fantastico's guard.

Riley drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Riley jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Fantastico is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Riley escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fantastico gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Riley is on top in guard.

John Riley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Riley has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fantastico can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
