PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lance Kent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Makumba Mokobo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lance Kent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Makumba Mokobo!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mokobo drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Kent pushes Mokobo off and scrambles back to his feet.
Kent tries to clinch up but Mokobo circles away and keeps his distance.
Mokobo blocks a head kick by Kent.
Kent tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mokobo defends well and Kent ends up having to push Mokobo into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Mokobo throws a counter combo.
Kent doesn't manage to clinch there - Mokobo circles away.
Mokobo throws a head kick that misses.

Mokobo moves into the clinch successfully.
Kent has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mokobo is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Mokobo gets control of Kent's arms and successfully pulls guard. Mokobo will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kent lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Kent wanted to stand there but Mokobo had control of the position.

Mokobo's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mokobo thuds a left hand into Kent's body.

Mokobo shoots in and gets a takedown into Kent's guard.
Mokobo slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Kent managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Mokobo.
An elbow from Mokobo crashes against the mat.
Kent gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Kent really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Kent is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Kent is breathing heavily.

Kent is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Mokobo looking to secure an arm triangle but Kent defends it well.
Mokobo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Mokobo throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Mokobo with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Mokobo looking to ground and pound but Kent is blocking nicely.

Kent sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Mokobo thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

More stalling from Mokobo.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mokobo not landing any meaningful shots this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Makumba Mokobo dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Kent takes a swing at Mokobo's ribcage but misses.

Mokobo moves into the clinch.
Mokobo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kent is trying to push Mokobo away but Mokobo has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Kent is trying to pull guard but Mokobo turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Mokobo gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Kent is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mokobo works his way into full mount!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mokobo is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Mokobo moves into range and clinches up with Kent.

Kent is trying to break the clinch but Mokobo is controlling him.
A frustrated look appears on Kent's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Kent jumps guard but Mokobo turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Mokobo ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mokobo no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Mokobo will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Mokobo is adopting a defensive guard.
Mokobo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Mokobo has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Kent is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Kent breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Mokobo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Mokobo decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kent closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Mokobo bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mokobo rushes Kent and presses him up against the cage.

Mokobo has Kent pushed against the cage.
Kent has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mokobo avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lance Kent. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mokobo lands a takedown into guard.
Mokobo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mokobo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Mokobo not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Mokobo sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Makumba Mokobo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Mokobo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kent, pushing him back against the cage.
Kent is trying to break the clinch but Mokobo is controlling him.
Kent tries to circle away but Mokobo has him pinned against the cage.
Kent wants a takedown.

Mokobo jumps into guard, dragging Kent to the mat.
Mokobo looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kent has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Mokobo has control of Kent's left arm, preventing Kent from doing any damage.

Mokobo drives through with a takedown into Kent's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Kent isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mokobo stacks Kent on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mokobo!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mokobo decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kent to his feet.

Mokobo closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kent quickly recovers to half guard.
Kent wants to stand back up but Mokobo manages to pass into side control.

Mokobo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kent, who protects the arm well.
Kent tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kent is trying to work for a sweep but Mokobo has mounted him!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mokobo sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Mokobo is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kent to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kent shrugs it off.

Makumba Mokobo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mokobo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
