Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Paul! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Michael Quincy! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Dirk Anderson and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paul swats away the attempt to clinch by Quincy. Quincy moves into the clinch. Quincy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. The crowd cheers as Paul lands an impressive looking overhand right. Quincy doesn't seem phased though. Paul waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Quincy. A nice side step and Quincy releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Paul uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Quincy. Quincy slips a straight right by Paul. Paul misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Quincy.
Paul punishes Quincy's body with a nice straight punch. Quincy throws a jab but it's blocked by Paul. Paul appears to be looking for a counter takedown. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Paul misses with a body shot.
Michael Quincy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Paul throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Quincy on the side of the head. Paul swings for the body but Quincy moves out of range.
Nice sprawl there from Quincy as Paul shoots in. Despite the aggression on Quincy's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Quincy tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Paul paws at him with a jab and circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paul has a takedown stuffed. Paul throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Paul misses with a straight left. Paul moves forwards but Quincy connects with a nice, crisp jab. Paul throws a body shot but no joy. Paul connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Quincy's hands. Paul takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
It looks like John Paul has been cut. Quincy misses the shot to the body. Quincy is looking to clinch but Paul is avoiding it.

Quincy tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Quincy lands with a cross. Paul swats away the attempt to clinch by Quincy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Quincy lands a nice shot that snaps Paul's head back.
Paul lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! A jab from Quincy misses. Quincy digs a good hook to Paul's body.
Paul darts in looking for a takedown but Quincy gets double underhooks and turns Paul into the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Paul. That's going to take a lot out of him. Quincy misses with a hook. Paul ducked under it nicely. Quincy clinches up against the cage. Quincy will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Paul up against the cage. Quincy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Quincy tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Paul was well out of range. Poor timing from Quincy. No luck for Paul with that takedown attempt. Paul doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paul fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Paul shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Quincy napping and manages to drive through into side control! Quincy is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Paul has just dragged him back down to the mat. Quincy seems a little lost for a moment, as Paul dominates the positioning. Paul postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Quincy takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Paul prevents Quincy from escaping the position. Quincy managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Paul.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Quincy is trying to control Paul's posture but Paul avoids it. Paul throwing strikes but Quincy manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control! Quincy trying to control the action but Paul is working from the bottom. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Quincy working away. Quincy controlling the position. Paul wants to control but Quincy postures up. Paul is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Quincy has just dragged him back down to the mat. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Michael Quincy will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on John Paul's cut. That's time! Back to the action!

and Paul counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Paul. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Paul in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Paul throws a big elbow that misses. Quincy looking for a sweep. Not yet Quincy, not yet. Paul is fighting to break Quincy's control of his arms but Quincy is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Paul is looking to work some ground and pound but Quincy has wrist control. No damage this time. Paul connects with a couple of short punches. Paul throwing strikes from guard but Quincy blocks nicely. Quincy looking for a sweep. Not yet Quincy, not yet. Quincy is trying to keep Paul in close.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Quincy avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Paul wants to control from the top but Quincy keeps moving. Paul working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Quincy's head. Quincy is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Quincy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Paul does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. John Paul overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Paul tries to kick Quincy off but Quincy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Quincy tries to stand and escape but Paul is controlling the position. Paul is trying to control but Quincy passes into side control!

Paul is trying to control Quincy's posture but Quincy avoids it. Quincy is looking to take a break and control but Paul is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Quincy working away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Paul slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Paul trying to control but Quincy is working from the bottom. Paul postures up in Quincy's guard and throws a big left but Quincy blocks it. Quincy has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Paul's corner. There ya go! There ya go! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Paul lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Quincy is trying to control the position but Paul postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Quincy is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Paul is controlling him. Quincy controlling Paul's posture. Paul stands up over Quincy, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Paul postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Paul with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Paul scoring with punches to the head and body. Paul is looking to work some ground and pound but Quincy has wrist control. Paul trying to control the position from guard on top but Quincy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Paul gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Quincy throws the left hand but Paul avoids the punch easily. Paul shoots in but Quincy avoids the takedown attempt easily. Quincy looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Quincy looks to land a left hand but Paul moved out of range nicely. Quincy fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Paul manages to avoid it. Paul throws the left hand but Quincy avoids the punch easily. Quincy now looks to counter with a shot at the body. Quincy rushes Paul and presses him up against the cage. Quincy breaks from the clinch.

and Paul counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Quincy tries to clinch up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Quincy connects with a nice looking jab.
Quincy thows a left - swing and a miss! Paul missing with a left hand there. Quincy was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Quincy throws a poor cross that misses
and Paul counters with a shoot takedown. Quincy fights it but they end up in guard. Paul with a flurry of punches that miss. Paul working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Paul throwing strikes from guard but Quincy blocks nicely. Paul works over Quincy with some ground and pound from guard. Paul trying to control but Quincy is working from the bottom. Paul is working Quincy over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Paul with a nice head shot there. Quincy is pulling down on Paul's head. It's preventing any offense from Paul, at least for the moment. Paul lands a couple of digs. Paul trying to control but Quincy is working from the bottom. Paul trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Paul lands a couple of elbows. Paul scoring with punches to the head and body. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Paul is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
