Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Cox! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Darrel Petersen! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Saam Ante and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Petersen swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Cox lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Petersen circles away quickly and effectively. Cox moves into range and connects with a jab. Cox shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Petersen as he jumps to the side. Cox looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Cox trying to control the pace. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cox is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Petersen is looking to improve his position but Cox isn't that keen on the idea. Cox controlling the pace for now. Cox gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Cox shoots in for a takedown but Petersen shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Petersen doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Petersen takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Cox ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Petersen waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Cox. Cox lunges at Petersen with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Petersen's hand. Cox catches Petersen with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! A slow jab from Petersen misses its intended target. Petersen misses with a body punch
and Cox counters with a series of strikes. Petersen will be more careful next time no doubt. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cox works Petersen's body with a nice hook. James Cox seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cox scores with a nice head shot. Cox throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Petersen's waist but Petersen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cox off to one side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Cox. That's going to take a lot out of him. Petersen misses with a hook. Cox has a takedown stuffed. Cox lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Cox shoots in for a takedown but Petersen shows good takedown defense. Petersen misses with a looping right.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Petersen doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Petersen throws a hook to the side of Cox's head but Cox sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Petersen is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cox. A little feinted left hand from Cox on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Petersen jabbing away but nothing is landing. Cox lands a nice shot to the body.
Petersen throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Cox connects with a single shot there. Cox scores with a shot to the body.
Petersen takes a swing at Cox's ribcage but misses. Cox tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Petersen defends well and Cox ends up having to push Petersen into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Cox scores with a jab. Petersen acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Cox jabs Petersen right on the nose. Petersen blinks but takes it well. Petersen's jab looks to have found its range, popping Cox under the eye. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cox connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Cox works Petersen's body with a nice hook.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cox slips under a jab. Cox appears to be looking for a counter takedown. No luck with that takedown attempt from Cox. Petersen takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Cox fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Petersen sprawls well initially but Cox persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Petersen felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Cox controlling the action here. Cox trying to mount his opponent but Petersen defends it. Cox controlling the pace. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Cox dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Cox lands with an uppercut that bounces Petersen off the cage and back into range. Petersen misses with an uppercut. Cox is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Petersen can do to turn this around? Cox shoots in but Petersen avoids the takedown attempt easily. Petersen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cox was well out of range. Poor timing from Petersen. The fighters circle momentarily. Cox darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Petersen takes one to the side of the head.
James Cox is winning the standup battle so far. Cox jabs Petersen to the body, keeping him at a distance. Petersen defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cox. A little jabbing left from Petersen on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. A big right from Cox misses. Petersen throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Let's see if Petersen can do anything to dispel that myth.

Cox slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Cox forces his way into half guard. Cox stands up from half guard. Petersen ducks under a wild hook from Cox. Petersen walks into a stiff left hand from Cox. Cox looking to score a takedown here. Petersen is defending well but Cox drives through and ends up in Petersen's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Petersen managing to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cox controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Cox seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Petersen for as long as he can get away with. Cox gets to his feet. Petersen looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Cox lands a head shot. Cox manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Petersen on his heels. He'll look to pass Petersen's guard now, I'm sure. Cox controls from within his opponent's guard. Cox works a leg free and moves into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cox looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Still in half guard, Cox seems content to control. Cox gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Petersen on the wrong end of a nice jab. Petersen misses with an uppercut
and Cox cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Cox lands a glancing blow to the side of Petersen's head. Petersen on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Cox sizes up Petersen with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Petersen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cox was well out of range. Poor timing from Petersen. Petersen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cox moves away. Cox scores with a jab. Petersen acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Cox uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Petersen.
Cox takes a swing at Petersen's ribcage but misses. Cox misses with a takedown attempt - Petersen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Petersen throws an overhand right that lands on Cox's shoulder, as Cox tries to avoid the shot. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cox with a jab. Petersen has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye. Cox swings for the body but Petersen moves out of range.
Cox scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Petersen doesn't seem bothered though. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cox. Cox connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Petersen's hands. Cox wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Cox dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Petersen takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Cox with a jab. A telegraphed right hand from Petersen misses the target. Cox avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Petersen throws a hook to the side of Cox's head but Cox sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Cox cracks Petersen with a good jab. Petersen throws a sloppy body shot
and Cox counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Cox jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Petersen uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Cox feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Petersens jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cox dives in for a single leg takedown but Petersen sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. A telegraphed right hand from Petersen misses the target. Cox lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

A punch lands to the side of Petersen 's head but he takes it in his stride. A jab from Cox finds it's way through Petersen's defenses. Petersen throws a hook but Cox blocks it. Cox uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Petersen. Petersen takes a shot right to the bread basket. Cox feints and as Petersen raises his hands in defense, Cox changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Cox postures up.
Cox gets to his feet - Petersen follows without any prompting. Cox looks to score with a jab to the body but Petersen is just out of range. Petersen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cox moves away. Cox cracks Petersen with a good jab. Cox scores with the left hand. Petersen knows he should have avoided that one. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Cox throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cox bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Cox tries to score a power double leg takedown but Petersen sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cox somewhat. Petersen throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Cox shoots for a double leg takedown but Petersen sprawls well. He's pushed Cox's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Cox. That's going to take a lot out of him. Petersen has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cox finds it's way round the side to connect with Petersen's head. Cox cracks Petersen with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Cox misses with a body shot.
Cox fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Petersen manages to avoid it. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Petersen! But no joy. Cox scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Cox keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Petersen. Cox shoots in and drives through. Petersen sprawls well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Petersen gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Cox. Petersen misses with a looping left. Cox was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Petersen walks into a stiff left hand from Cox. Petersen throws a right hand that misses
and Cox counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Darrel Petersen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Cox throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Petersen throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Cox tests Petersen's chin there with a solid looking shot. Petersen swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Petersen throws a body shot but no joy. Darrel Petersen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Petersen misses with a looping left. Cox getting the better of the striking in that exchange. No luck for Cox with that takedown attempt. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Nice uppercut there from Cox.
And that's the end of the fight! James Cox showed his dominance in that final round. Well Cox has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
