Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Roderick Chaney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, George Jones! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Steven Brown and Phil Schofield.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chaney throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Chaney off to one side. Jones steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Chaney. Chaney shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jones sprawls well. Jones wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Chaney gets slowly back to his feet. Jones closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Jones is chipping away with strikes.
Chaney takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jones in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Jones is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Chaney has escaped the position, nice work there. Chaney can't do much from the bottom here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones wants to control but Chaney is keeping him busy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jones stands up and beckons Chaney to his feet. Jones tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Jones shoots in but Chaney avoids the takedown attempt easily. Chaney blocks a leg kick. Chaney tries to counter with a takedown but Jones is quick to defend against it. Jones throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Chaney tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jones is in Chaney's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chaney wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Jones is now in half guard. Chaney is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Jones lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Jones landing punches. Jones should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Jones lands a nice shot to the head. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Chaney is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Chaney tries to get back to half guard but can't. Chaney wants to control but Jones is having none of it. Jones controlling the pace for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones cracks Chaney with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Jones fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Chaney has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Jones has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Chaney has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Chaney defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Jones scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Chaney is looking for a way out. Jones lands strikes from the back and Chaney isn't doing enough to escape the position. The referee steps in to end the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). George Jones!
