Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Segey Taranin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Magnus Magomedov! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Taranin feints and as Magomedov raises his hands in defense, Taranin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Taranin throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Magomedov avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Taranin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Magomedov wants to sweep but no luck. Taranin has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Magomedov wants to stand but Taranin is controlling the position. Taranin controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Taranin won't allow Magomedov to sweep him here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Magomedov avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Magomedov told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Taranin trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Magomedov keeping moving, preventing Taranin from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Taranin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Magomedov is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Taranin, into his guard. Magomedov is looking to stand up but Taranin won't let him. Magomedov wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Taranin's closed guard. He's half up but Taranin has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Taranin pivots and extends the arm, Magomedov falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Taranin! Well done that man!
