PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mini Stipe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derek Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stipe comes to the cage accompanied by PRIDE FC - Opening Theme Song. Harris has chosen Not again - You all ready dropped? as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Derek Harris has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mini Stipe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Derek Harris!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Glass and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stipe lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Stipe keeps the fight on the outside.

Stipe takes the fight into the clinch.
Harris throws a head punch that misses.
Harris digs a right hand underneath Stipe's ribcage. Stipe let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Harris looking to throw knees to the head but Stipe is blocking nicely.
Stipe lands a left hand that snaps the head of Harris backwards.
Harris has a couple of punches blocked by Stipe.
Harris misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Harris tries a body shot but Stipe blocks it.
Harris misses with a hook to the ribs.
Harris working aggressively here.
Stipe fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stipe has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Harris is trying to keep an underhook but Stipe manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Harris kicks Stipe off and gets back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Stipe shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Harris manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Stipe throws a big right hand that misses.

Stipe passes into half guard.
Harris is looking to control Stipe's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Harris avoid being mounted?
Stipe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Stipe is looking to take a break and control but Harris is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Stipe wants to work for an arm triangle but Harris is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Harris tries to roll over but Stipe keeps him under control.
Harris keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
We've been hearing that Stipe has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Harris on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Harris regains full guard. Nicely done.
Stipe wants to control from the top but Harris keeps moving.
Stipe throwing strikes but missing.

Harris working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stipe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Stipe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Harris bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Stipe's guard.

Harris is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Harris passes Stipe's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stipe is looking to improve his position.
Stipe is staying active underneath Harris, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Harris wants to pass to mount but Stipe is defending the position.
Stipe controlling the position well.
Stipe is trying to maintain the position but Harris is very close to passing his half guard.
Harris controlling the pace.
Harris wants to free his trapped foot but Stipe is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Stipe regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Harris is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Stipe escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Harris gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Harris slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Stipe keeping moving, preventing Harris from controlling successfully.
Harris wants to pass the guard but Stipe is keeping the position.
Stipe is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Harris has gone for a leg lock! Stipe slips out almost immediately though and dives into Harris's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mini Stipe will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Stipe throws a poor cross that misses
and Harris counters with a left and a right that stings Stipe.
Harris lands a leg kick that knocks Stipe off balance momentarily.
Harris steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Stipe.
Derek Harris seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stipe lands a nice hook to Harris's body. Harris takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Stipe avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Harris enables Stipe to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Harris manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Harris has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Stipe has passed into side control.

Harris seems a little lost for a moment, as Stipe dominates the positioning.
Stipe cracks Harris with an elbow. That is naaassty.
You can see the frustration on Harris's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Harris is in all sorts of trouble here.
Harris is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Stipe cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Mini Stipe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Harris wants to hold on but Stipe pushes him away.
Harris tries to get back to half guard but can't.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Stipe here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Stipe lands a nice shot to the head.

Harris can't escape the position.
Stipe is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Harris sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Harris keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Stipe lands a nice short elbow.
Stipe lands with a punch from half guard.
Harris moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Stipe is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Harris can do to turn this around?
Stipe postures up and lands a big shot to Harris's brow.

Stipe prevents Harris from getting back to his feet.

Stipe throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Stipe content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Stipe won't allow Harris to sweep him here.
Stipe connects with a couple of short punches.
Harris preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mini Stipe dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Stipe with a lazy takedown attempt
and Harris counters with a nice body shot.
Stipe blocks a head kick by Harris.
Harris tries a head kick but it misses.
Harris lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Harris feints and then cracks Stipe's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Stipe down.
Harris walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Stipe closes the distance and pushes Harris back into the cage.
Harris fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Stipe lands a hook to the side of the head.
Harris throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Stipe blocks it with crossed arms.
Stipe tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Harris is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Harris misses with a hook from the clinch.
Harris lands a body punch in the clinch.
Harris looking to throw knees to the head but Stipe is blocking nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Harris escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Harris avoids the body shot from Stipe.
Harris will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Stipe ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Harris throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Stipe pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Harris scores with a punch to the head.

Stipe fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Harris to the ground. Stipe is now in Harris's guard.
Harris wants to sweep but no luck.
Stipe might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Harris is trying to control the position but Stipe postures up.
Stipe trying to control the position from guard on top but Harris is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Harris is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Stipe is working Harris over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Stipe stays in close to Harris's body and controls the position.

Stipe distracts Harris with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Harris pulls Stipe in to control the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Harris looks to land a right hand but Stipe moved out of range.

Harris pushes Stipe up against the cage in a clinch.
Harris swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Stipe lands a hook that snaps the head of Harris backwards.
Harris blocks a body shot from Stipe.
Harris misses with a hook from the clinch.
Harris pushes Stipe back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Come on Stipe - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Stipe's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
A short uppercut from Harris.
Stipe swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Harris lands a knee to the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Derek Harris.
I think Stipe has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
