Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joaquin Sosa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Franco!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Franco gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sosa fails to pull guard.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Sosa is fighting off a takedown attempt but Franco is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Sosa to the mat. Sosa regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Franco slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Franco pushing down on Sosa's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Franco is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sosa is just riding it out for now. Franco eventually gives up the hold.
Still in half guard, Franco seems content to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Franco is thwarting Sosa's attempts to control the position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Franco lands a nice short elbow.
Franco perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Franco stands up from half guard.

Sosa gets caught napping as Franco dives in and scores a takedown. Sosa manages to retain guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Franco thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Franco stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Nice takedown defense from Sosa. No joy for Franco on that attempt.
Sosa tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Franco defends well and Sosa ends up having to push Franco into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Sosa looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Franco shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Sosa counters with a left and a right that stings Franco.

Franco looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sosa wants to improve his position but instead Franco has moved into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Franco is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Franco drops an elbow to the side of Sosa's head.

Franco decides to stand and escape the position.

Sosa gets caught flat footed, as Franco shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Franco controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Franco's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Franco postures up and lands a big shot to Sosa's brow.
We've been informed that Franco has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Franco with a nice head shot there.
Franco looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Sosa is working an open guard so Franco takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Franco moves into the clinch successfully.

Franco pulls Sosa into guard.

Franco looking for a guillotine here but Sosa defends easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sosa trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Franco dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Franco shoots in and bounces Sosa off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Franco controlling from the top position.
Sosa is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Franco slips nicely into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sosa is in trouble now - Franco has advanced to mount!

Franco controlling from mount.
Sosa is desperately trying to improve his position but Franco has a good base and remains in mount.
Franco has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Franco controlling the position easily from mount.

Franco swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
