Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Polavic Monira! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, John Carter! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Andrew Berry and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carter feints and as Monira raises his hands in defense, Carter changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Carter is working Monira over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Carter landing some decent shots from guard. Monira will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Monira will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Monira has his foot on Carter's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carter works his way back into a safe position though. Carter trying to control the position from guard on top but Monira is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Monira has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Carter can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Carter stands up over Monira, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Carter avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Carter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Monira. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Monira has his foot on Carter's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carter works his way back into a safe position though. Monira has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Carter scores with a decent looking elbow strike. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Carter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Monira is keeping the position for now. Monira working for a triangle but Carter defends it easily.
Monira is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Monira is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Carter has his hands clasped together but Monira extends and breaks Carter's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Monira.
