12 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Whiteside! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Konstantin Menshow and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pettis uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Whiteside has time to react. Nice takedown defense from Pettis. No joy for Whiteside on that attempt. Pettis misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jab by Whiteside. Good standup being displayed there by Pettis as he connects with a hook. Pettis throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Whiteside is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Pettis's half guard. Whiteside is looking to take a break and control but Pettis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pettis trying to control but Whiteside postures up.
Whiteside takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Pettis is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Whiteside pulls his head out easily. Pettis is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whiteside maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Pettis could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Whiteside has cracked it and Pettis is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Whiteside!
