PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Graeme Pepper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pepper comes to the cage accompanied by boom. Pepper is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Graeme Pepper has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dave Lee!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee drops Pepper with a left right combo! Lee follows him down to the ground into side control.


Pepper is rocked!


It looks like Graeme Pepper has been cut.
Pepper is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lee controls the position.
Oh Pepper is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Lee stands up and beckons Pepper to his feet.
Pepper seems to have got his legs back now.

Lee clinches up against the cage.
Lee wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Pepper has him pressed against the cage.
Lee wants to break free but Pepper has control.

Lee lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Pepper is looking to improve his position.

Lee stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Pepper to get to his feet.
Lee throws a right hand that Pepper ducks under and follows up with a left that Pepper also avoids with ease.
Pepper takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Pepper gets caught flat footed, as Lee shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Lee slips nicely into half guard.
Lee works his foot free and advances to mount.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pepper might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Despite being in the dominant position, Dave Lee just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Lee rushes Pepper and presses him up against the cage.
Lee wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Pepper has him pressed against the cage.

Lee breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lee fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Lee scores with a jab. Pepper acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Lee lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Lee.
Lee thuds his right hand into Pepper's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Lee misses with a wild combination.

Lee closes the distance and clinches.
Pepper prevents the takedown attempt.
Pepper stalling in the clinch but Lee improves position.
Lee lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Pepper wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Lee has him pressed against the cage.
Lee wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Lee lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Pepper can't find room to land a body shot as Lee controls the action.
Lee lands a shoulder strike.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Pepper.

Lee manages to break the clinch.
Pepper takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Lee lands with a right hand.
Pepper blocks a jab.
Lee takes a swing at Pepper's ribcage but misses.
Lee scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Lee connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Pepper's hands.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pepper tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lee swivels and escapes.
Lee misses with a takedown attempt - Pepper sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Graeme Pepper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Lee.

Lee has taken the fight to the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Lee throws a nice looking combination but Pepper bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Lee clinches with his opponent.
Pepper has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Lee avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Lee gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Lee showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Pepper wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Lee manages to pass to side control.
Pepper is trying to maintain the position but Lee is very close to passing his half guard.

Lee decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lee lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Lee.

Pepper avoids the body shot from Lee.
Pepper is looking to clinch.
Pepper shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lee as he jumps to the side.
Lee closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Lee has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Lee throws a hook to the side of Pepper's head but Pepper sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
The fight stays on the outside here - Pepper looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Lee throws a right and a left that both miss.
Pepper tries to clinch there but Lee circles away.

Lee has closed the distance and engaged Pepper in a clinch.
Pepper tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Graeme Pepper. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pepper prevents Lee from breaking the clinch.

Lee has clasped his hands together around Pepper's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Lee decides to stand back up. Lee steps back and let's Pepper get back to his feet.
Lee cracks Pepper with a right hand to the side of the head.
Lee throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Pepper.
Pepper buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Lee misses with a series of wild punches.
Dave Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pepper avoids a punch combination nicely.

Pepper moves out of range of the strikes.
Lee is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Lee doesn't manage to clinch there - Pepper circles away.
Lee lands with a nice body punch.
Lee fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Pepper instigates a clinch.
Lee wants to break free but Pepper has control.

Lee decides to pull guard.
Lee keeping moving, preventing Pepper from controlling successfully.
Lee is pulling down on Pepper's head to control his posture.
Pepper trying to control the position from guard on top but Lee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pepper trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Lee dips to his left and cracks Pepper with an uppercut!

Dave Lee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Pepper wants to break free but Lee has control.

Lee has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Pepper clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Pepper tries to escape the position.
Lee has good solid back control here.
Pepper tries to roll but Lee sticks to his back.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Lee biding his time, controlling Pepper.
Pepper wants to escape the position.
Lee trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Pepper doesn't escape.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Pepper tries to roll but Lee sticks to his back.
Lee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pepper. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lee lands strikes to the head.
Lee is riding his opponent, not letting Pepper buck him off.
Pepper has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Good control from Lee.
Let's hope that Lee has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Lee is trying to stick to Pepper's back but Pepper is turning into Lee. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Lee's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Pepper.
Dave Lee has got the better of the ground game so far.
Lee wants to stand but Pepper is controlling the position.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Lee holds on and takes a little breather.
Pepper wants to pass the guard but Lee is keeping the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pepper tries to stand but Lee is controlling from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pepper is looking to advance position but Lee has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Graeme Pepper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dave Lee is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pepper is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Dave Lee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lee has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
