Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Paul! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Martin Holm! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Peter Branson and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paul sizes up Holm with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Paul displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Holm throws out the jab. Paul lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Paul shoots in for a double leg but Holm sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Holm uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Paul. It seemed like Holm was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Paul looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Holm! Holm is trying to buck Paul off. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Holm sneaks out the side door and pushes Paul away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paul jabs Holm to the body, keeping him at a distance. Holm keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A countering left hand to the body from Holm misses. Paul takes a swing at Holm's ribcage but misses. No luck for Paul with that takedown attempt. Holm is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Paul with a body shot. Paul misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Paul. That's going to take a lot out of him. Paul fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Holm sprawls well initially but Paul persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Holm wants to get back to his feet. Paul is trying to control the action in half guard but Holm is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Paul is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Holm tries to kick Paul off but Paul keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Holm takes one to the side of the head.
Holm stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Holm wants it to stay on the feet. Paul misses with a few strikes there.
John Paul seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Paul clobbers Holm with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Holm slips under a jab. Paul shoots for a takedown but Holm saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Holm doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Paul thuds a left hand into Holm's body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Holm slips under a jab. Paul throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Holm's waist but Holm gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Paul off to one side. Holm swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Paul shoots in looking for a takedown but Holm manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Paul's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Holm swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. A looping hook to the body misses from Paul. Holm does a little dance to reset his feet. A little jabbing left from Holm on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Paul has been working on his balance at ReVoLuT!oN !sL@nD GYM, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Holm. Paul on the wrong end of a nice hook. Paul just misses with a punch to the body.

Paul fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Holm avoids it really well and circles away. Holm ducks under a wild hook from Paul. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Paul is defended easily by Holm. Holm is looking for the big counter here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice sprawl there from Holm as Paul shoots in. The crowd cheers as Paul lands an impressive looking overhand right. Holm doesn't seem phased though. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Paul looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Holm is fending him off so far but Paul persists. Nope, Holm circles away and we're back to standing. Paul closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Holm pushes Paul off and gets back to his feet. Martin Holm has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Paul with a lazy takedown attempt and Holm counters with a stiff right hand. Paul takes one on the button. Paul swings for the body but Holm moves out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Good standup being displayed there by Holm as he connects with a hook. Paul misses with an uppercut. Holm drops Paul with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Paul looks back up at him and smiles so Holm waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Paul is rocked! Paul is holding his hands too far apart here. Holm throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Paul is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!
