Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Danny Devine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and shinya aoki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). shinya aoki has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
aoki throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Devine.
Devine feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
aoki not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
aoki looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Devine puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Devine wants to work for an arm triangle but aoki is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

aoki loads up on a big right hand but Devine slips the punch.

and aoki counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Devine is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

aoki drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and aoki jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Devine seems keen to control aoki's posture.

aoki has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as aoki accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
