Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nadaris Son! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ali Ghonaay! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ghonaay gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Son counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Ghonaay gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily enabling Son to counter with a crisp jab. Ghonaay with a poor takedown and Son counters with a lovely straight right hand! Nadaris Son has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ali Ghonaay. Ghonaay closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Son quickly recovers to half guard. Ghonaay is looking to advance position but Son won't allow it. Son makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Son connects with the punch.
It looks like Ali Ghonaay has been cut. Ghonaay dives in for a single leg takedown but Son sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Ghonaay tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Son defends well and Ghonaay ends up having to push Son into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Son appears to be looking for a big counter. Ghonaay fails with the takedown and Son counters with a straight right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ghonaay misses with a left hand and Son counters with a big uppercut that knocks Ghonaay off his feet! Son dives into side control looking to finish!
Ghonaay is rocked! Ghonaay sneaks back into half guard. Ghonaay is still in real trouble! Can Son finish him? Ghonaay has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Son is working away from the top position though. Ghonaay seems to have recovered his senses. Son wants to stand but Ghonaay has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Son wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Ghonaay uses the opportunity to regain full guard. Ghonaay has control of Son's left arm, preventing Son from doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Son will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Son wants to stand but Ghonaay has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ghonaay is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Son has his hands clasped together but Ghonaay extends and breaks Son's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Ghonaay.
