Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ozamataz Buckshank! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Glass Joe! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Joe slips a jab from Buckshank. An inside leg kick lands from Buckshank. Joe shoots and misses and Buckshank counters with a right hand to the body. Joe fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Buckshank to the ground. Joe is now in Buckshank's guard. Joe in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Joe tries to free his leg and advance position but Buckshank is retaining full guard. Buckshank is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Joe is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Buckshank keeping moving, preventing Joe from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Buckshank is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Joe is looking for a sweep. Buckshank is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Buckshank throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Joe regains full guard. Nicely done. Joe had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Buckshank defends it easily. Buckshank trying to control but Joe is working from the bottom. Buckshank is stalling in the full guard. Buckshank won't allow Joe to sweep him here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Buckshank tries to free his leg and advance position but Joe is retaining full guard. Buckshank looking to sit in guard and control but Joe gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Buckshank working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Joe. Joe chips away with some ground and pound. Joe postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Buckshank keeping full guard, as Joe tries to pass. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Joe working his ground and pound in the gym. Joe lands a couple of decent looking shots. Buckshank is trying to control the position but Joe postures up. Joe sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Joe postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Joe won't allow Buckshank to sweep him here. Joe has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Joe scoring with punches to the head and body. Buckshank has momentary wrist control but Joe slips an elbow through the middle. Joe stands up over Buckshank, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Buckshank is rocked! Buckshank has control of Joe's left arm, preventing Joe from doing any damage. Oh Buckshank is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Joe with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Joe postures up.
Buckshank seems to have got his legs back now. Buckshank looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Buckshank keeping moving, preventing Joe from controlling successfully. Buckshank wants to sweep but no luck. Joe postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Joe accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Joe has gone for a leg lock! Buckshank slips out almost immediately though and dives into Joe's guard. Joe looking for a sweep. Not yet Joe, not yet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Buckshank wants to control from the top but Joe keeps moving. Buckshank avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Glass Joe dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Buckshank connects with a body shot. Joe shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Buckshank as he avoids it easily. Buckshank is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Joe. Buckshank pushing out the jab but it's not landing. No luck with that takedown attempt from Joe. A shot to the liver by Buckshank. Beautiful body shot. Buckshank lands a front kick. We've been told by Buckshank's head coaches at Soul Supremacy Rio that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A jab from Buckshank does it's job there. Joe shoots and misses and Buckshank counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Ozamataz Buckshank has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Glass Joe. Buckshank lands a nice shot that snaps Joe's head back.
A decent looking cross lands there for Buckshank. Joe is breathing heavily. Buckshank is looking to slow Joe down with leg kicks.
That's one minute gone in the round. Joe throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Buckshank tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Joe is in Buckshank's guard. Buckshank wants to sweep but no luck. Buckshank keeping moving, preventing Joe from controlling successfully. Joe with a nice head shot there. Glass Joe has got the better of the ground game so far. Joe preventing the sweep. Buckshank had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Joe defends it easily. Joe stopping the sweep attempt from Buckshank. Joe working some strikes from top position. Buckshank preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Buckshank looking to hit a scissor sweep but Joe is one step ahead there.

Joe trying to control but Buckshank is working from the bottom. Buckshank working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Joe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Joe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Joe scoring with punches to the head and body. Joe trying to control the position from guard on top but Buckshank is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Buckshank working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Joe.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Joe preventing the sweep. Joe forces his way into half guard. Joe is nestled in close to Buckshank, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Joe lands strikes from half guard. Joe looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Buckshank is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Joe scores with a couple of nice shots. Joe scores with a big shot! Buckshank's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Buckshank! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Glass Joe! Glass Joe retains his middleweight title! After the fight, Glass Joe was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
