Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brodie Nickoson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oleg Korolyov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brodie Nickoson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oleg Korolyov!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Korolyov fails with a takedown attempt.
Korolyov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Nickoson sprawls well. Nickoson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Korolyov gets slowly back to his feet.
Nickoson misses with a low kick.
Korolyov is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Korolyov shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Nickoson napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Nickoson has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Korolyov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nickoson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Korolyov has managed to get both his arms back between Nickoson's legs - danger averted.
Korolyov postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Korolyov throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nickoson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Korolyov trying to control the position from guard on top but Nickoson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nickoson has control of Korolyov's left arm, preventing Korolyov from doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nickoson shoots in looking for a takedown but Korolyov manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Nickoson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Korolyov misses with a takedown attempt - Nickoson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Korolyov can do anything to dispel that myth.

Nickoson looking to sit in guard and control but Korolyov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Korolyov stands up over Nickoson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Korolyov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Korolyov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Nickoson paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Nickoson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Korolyov.
Nickoson shoots in for a takedown but Korolyov shows good takedown defense.

and Korolyov counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Korolyov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Nickoson wants to stand and escape but Korolyov is having none of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Nickoson avoids the attempt from Korolyov to control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nickoson throws an overhand right that lands on Korolyov's shoulder, as Korolyov tries to avoid the shot.
Korolyov will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Korolyov decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Korolyov throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Korolyov wants to control but Nickoson is keeping him busy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Nickoson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Korolyov swivels and escapes.
Korolyov uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Nickoson.
Nickoson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Korolyov avoids it really well and circles away.

Korolyov closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Korolyov lands in his opponent's guard.
Korolyov advances to half guard.
