Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 45 - 46 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Hughs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rutger Van Alst!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick from Van Alst lands but Hughs takes it in his stride.

Hughs takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Hughs on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Hughs with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Van Alst to score with a decent uppercut.
Van Alst stuns Hughs with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Hughs throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Van Alst circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hughs backing away here, and Van Alst unleashes a leg kick that just misses.

Hughs fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Van Alst, pushing him back against the cage.
Van Alst has had enough of the clinch but Hughs keeps him there for the moment.
Hughs tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Van Alst avoids it.
A frustrated look appears on Van Alst's face as he tries to break the clinch.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Van Alst escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hughs wants to clinch up but Van Alst keeps it at a distance.
Van Alst misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hughs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rutger Van Alst dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Hughs is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Van Alst dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Hughs. That did some damage!

Rutger Van Alst is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

and Van Alst counters with a low kick, right behind Hughs 's knee.

Van Alst throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
