Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bert Blanchard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chuck Unucka! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Dean Styles and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Blanchard shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Unucka lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Blanchard shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Unucka's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Blanchard postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Unucka is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Blanchard landing some decent shots from guard. Blanchard scores with a decent looking elbow strike. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Blanchard with a nice head shot there. Blanchard will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Blanchard drops back looking for a leg! Unucka is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Unucka manages to kick Blanchard off! Blanchard jumps back into Unucka's guard. Blanchard won't allow Unucka to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Blanchard landing some decent shots from guard. Blanchard with a nice head shot there. Unucka should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Unucka is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Blanchard is controlling him. Blanchard thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Unucka can do anything to dispel that myth. Unucka wants to stand and escape but Blanchard is having none of it. Unucka looks winded! Blanchard is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Unucka wants to stand up but Blanchard is controlling him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Unucka is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Blanchard dives into side control.
Blanchard is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Unucka looks calm but he's in trouble here. Blanchard gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Unucka is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Blanchard lets go of the hold and Unucka can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Bert Blanchard!
