Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexander Koreshkov! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Quinoa Smiff! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Ivan Kurochkin and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smiff defending well as Koreshkov loads up on a big left hand. Koreshkov swings for the body but Smiff moves out of range.
Smiff missing with a left hand there. Koreshkov was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Smiff. Smiff stuffs the takedown attempt from Koreshkov. Koreshkov gets slowly back to his feet. Koreshkov stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Koreshkov wants it to stay on the feet. Smiff throws a left and a right that both miss
and Koreshkov counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Smiff is trying to stand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smiff is looking for a sweep. Koreshkov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Koreshkov throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Smiff is trying to get back to full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Koreshkov landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Koreshkov frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Koreshkov sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Smiff is trying to stand up. BOOM! Koreshkov connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Koreshkov lands a heavy elbow. Smiff is looking to improve his position but Koreshkov isn't that keen on the idea. BOOM! Koreshkov connects with a massive shot to the dome!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smiff is wriggling around trying to escape.
Koreshkov lands a nice shot to the head. Smiff sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Smiff looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Koreshkov is looking to take a break and control but Smiff is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Koreshkov is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Smiff is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Koreshkov is really struggling to control Smiff but he's trying to hold on to the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Koreshkov seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Smiff wants to control the action here but instead Koreshkov manages to pass to full mount! Koreshkov scoring with strikes but Smiff is staying in there. Koreshkov tries to control but Smiff wriggling away. Koreshkov working away from the top, dropping strikes. Smiff slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Koreshkov scoring with strikes to the body and head. Koreshkov has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Smiff is looking to get to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Koreshkov fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
This has been an exciting period of action! Koreshkov landing shots from mount. Koreshkov postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Smiff in real trouble here! The ref calls for Smiff to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

After winning the bout, Alexander Koreshkov thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
