Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Frost! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Craig Patton! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yuuki Gou and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patton lands with an overhand left. Patton closes the distance and clinches. Frost tries to pull guard but Patton holds him up against the ropes and eventually Frost drops back down to his feet.
Patton gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Frost.
Patton ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Patton no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Patton can do anything to dispel that myth. Frost tries to free his leg and advance position but Patton is retaining full guard. Patton trying to keep a closed guard but Frost is proving a slippery customer.
Patton looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Frost stands and throws Patton's legs to the side, diving into side control. Frost tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Patton wants to control but Frost postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Frost in side control, throwing shots but Patton defends. Patton tries to buck Frost off but Frost is having none of it. You can see the frustration on Patton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Frost sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Patton is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Patton is trying to improve his position. Frost has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Frost is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Patton knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Frost working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Frost looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Patton tries to improve position but can't. Frost in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Patton is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
