PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vic Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Malvin Mandi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stone comes to the cage accompanied by George Thorogood - Bad to the Bone. Malvin Mandi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Vic Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Malvin Mandi!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mandi tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Stone misses with an uppercut. Mandi saw that one coming.
Mandi feints the counter takedown.
Stone lands a jab to the head.
Stone throws a big shot that misses.

Mandi closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Mandi drops down looking for an ankle pick but Stone pulls his leg out and moves away.
Malvin Mandi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stone displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mandi.
It looked like Stone wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mandi misses with a kick to the body.
Stone throws a lazy body kick

and Mandi counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Stone is trying to get back to full guard.
Stone makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Stone.

Stone looking for a guillotine here but Mandi defends easily.
Mandi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Stone works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Stone keeping moving, preventing Mandi from controlling successfully.

Stone is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Mandi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Stone works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Stone looking for a guillotine here but Mandi defends easily.

Stone has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Mandi is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Stone.

Mandi stands up.

Mandi tries for a takedown but Stone sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Vic Stone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Malvin Mandi.
Stone slaps away a takedown attempt from Mandi, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mandi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Stone is fending him off so far but Mandi persists. Nope, Stone circles away and we're back to standing.
Mandi lands the left hand.
Stone lands a front kick.
Mandi misses with a telegraphed body shot
letting Stone counter with a right hand.
Mandi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stone circles away.
Mandi blocks a head kick by Stone.
Mandi lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Mandi blocks the body kick.
A head kick misses from Mandi.
Stone swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Mandi tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Stone was well out of range. Poor timing from Mandi.
Mandi shoots in but Stone avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Stone lands with a nice body kick.
Stone throws a big shot that misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mandi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Stone ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mandi moves away.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mandi moves out of range as Stone throws a body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Stone avoids a punch combination nicely.
It appears Stone was looking to counter with a kick there.
A slow jab from Stone misses its intended target.
Stone fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mandi manages to avoid it.
Mandi fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mandi is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Mandi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stone circles away.

and Mandi counters by moving into the clinch.
Stone pushes Mandi back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Stone digs a right hand underneath Mandi's ribcage. Mandi let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Mandi tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Stone just stands there and leans against the cage.
Stone tries to throw a body punch but Mandi avoids it by throwing Stone back against the cage.

Mandi breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mandi connects with a nice looking jab.
Mandi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Stone swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mandi throws a leg kick
and Stone counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Mandi throws a sloppy head kick and Stone moves out of range easily.
Mandi has a takedown stuffed.
Stone feinted with a counter takedown.
Vic Stone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Malvin Mandi.

Mandi has taken the fight to the clinch.

A short right hand to the side of the head by Stone.
Stone misses with a body punch.
Stone lands a right hand that snaps the head of Mandi backwards.
Mandi displaying some good clinch control by pressing Stone up against the cage.

Stone gets underhooks to prevent Mandi's takedown attempt.
Mandi prevents a body shot from Stone.

Mandi misses with a hook to the ribs.
Mandi fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Mandi jumps guard but Stone stands there with Mandi around his waist. Mandi gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Mandi tries to score a body lock takedown but Stone shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Stone tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Mandi blocks an uppercut.
A right handed body shot lands from Stone.

Stone throws a big shot that misses.

Mandi shoots in for a takedown but Stone shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Vic Stone is winning the standup battle so far.
Stone lands with a nice body kick.
An inside leg kick lands from Stone.
Stone throws a push kick but Mandi slaps the foot to one side.
Stone misses with a head kick.
Mandi is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Stone thows a leg kick but Mandi checks it
and Mandi counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Mandi is looking to clinch.
Stone scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stone shoots for a double leg takedown but Mandi sprawls well. He's pushed Stone's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Mandi gets a takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stone regains full guard. Nicely done.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Mandi tries to close the distance and clinch but Stone swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Mandi dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Stone lands with a shot to the body.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mandi.
Mandi avoids a kick to the body.
No luck for Mandi with that takedown attempt.

Stone slaps away a takedown attempt from Mandi, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Stone swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Mandi thows a leg kick but Stone checks it
and Stone finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Mandi has his takedown stuffed
and Stone counters with a good low kick that Mandi was not able to check.
Mandi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mandi moves out of range of the body kick from Stone.
Mandi gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Stone counters with a shoot takedown. Mandi fights it but they end up in guard.

Stone sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Stone drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mandi manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Stone has Mandi in his guard.


Stone is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stone manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mandi manages to get himself to full guard.

Mandi keeping moving, preventing Stone from controlling successfully.

Mandi has his foot on Stone's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stone works his way back into a safe position though.
Stone wants to pass the guard but Mandi is keeping the position.
Vic Stone is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Malvin Mandi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Stone slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Stone prevents Mandi from getting back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Stone controlling from the top position.
Mandi wants to sweep here but Stone controlling him for the moment.
Mandi being controlled here, momentarily.
Mandi not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Stone seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Malvin Mandi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Stone trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Vic Stone showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Stone, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
