PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Clausey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quinton Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quinton Johnson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Thomas Clausey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Quinton Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Columbo Gatti and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clausey keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Left hook, right uppercut from Johnson.
Johnson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Clausey.
No joy there for Johnson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Clausey throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Johnson's waist but Johnson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Clausey off to one side.
Johnson lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Clausey looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet.

Johnson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Clausey has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Clausey is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Johnson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Clausey wants to control but Johnson is keeping him busy.
Clausey is putting a hurting on Johnson here, landing some big shots from side control.

Clausey is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Johnson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Johnson wants to control but Clausey postures up.

Clausey thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Clausey moves into full mount!

Clausey looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Johnson tries to hold on but Clausey postures up.
Clausey scoring with strikes but Johnson is staying in there.
Clausey seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Johnson is holding on tight.
Johnson is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Clausey lands a big shot there that rocks Johnson but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Clausey looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Clausey is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Johnson can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice sprawl there from Johnson as Clausey shoots in.
Johnson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Johnson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Clausey tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Johnson swivels and escapes.
Johnson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Johnson throws a head kick that misses.
Clausey sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Clausey closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Clausey is working for a kimura but Johnson is defending it quite comfortably.
Clausey passes the guard and advances to mount!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Clausey is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Johnson is surviving well by controlling Clausey's body position as best he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Clausey swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Johnson is now in Clausey's guard. A big mistake from Clausey there, giving up the dominant position!

Clausey is looking for a triangle but Johnson pushes his legs off easily.
Johnson lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Clausey looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Johnson postures up and lands a big shot to Clausey's brow.
Johnson wants to get up but he can't break Clausey's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Clausey has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Johnson should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Clausey has tightened it up now! Johnson should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
