PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Josh Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patricio Freire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Turner comes to the cage accompanied by Next Episode by Dr. Dre. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Turner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Patricio Freire!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Jonathan Paton and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice uppercut there from Freire.
Turner takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Turner slips a jab from Freire.
Turner shoots in and drives through. Freire sprawls well.
Freire uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Freire stuffs the takedown attempt from Turner. Turner gets slowly back to his feet.
Turner takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Nice body punch from Freire.
Freire misses with a body shot

and Turner counters with a single leg into guard. Freire didn't expect that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Turner trying to control the position from guard on top but Freire is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Freire escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Turner gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Freire throws his legs up looking for a submission but Turner uses it to pass to side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Freire is trying to improve his position.
Turner wants to control but Freire is keeping him busy.
Freire regains half guard.
Freire moves into full guard.
Turner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Freire swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Freire is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Freire looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Freire is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Turner controlling the position for now.

Turner is defending against the submission attempts here by Freire.

Freire is looking for a kimura but Turner is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Freire to get the leverage.

Freire is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Turner is doing well to control the position and prevent Freire from advancing to side control.

Freire is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Turner wants to improve his position but Freire is controlling well.
Turner regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Freire forces his way into half guard.
Turner wants to control but Freire is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Freire is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Turner moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patricio Freire dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Freire lands a jab to the nose.
Freire scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Turner doesn't seem bothered though.
Freire throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Turner throws a left and a right that both miss
enabling Freire to counter with a crisp jab.
Freire looks to score with a jab to the body but Turner is just out of range.
Turner tries to clinch
and Freire counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Freire clobbers Turner with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Turner tries to score a power double leg takedown but Freire sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Turner somewhat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Freire closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Patricio Freire is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Nice cross by Freire.
Freire throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Turner shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Freire as he avoids it easily.

Turner misses with a takedown attempt
and Freire counters with a right hand to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Turner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Freire connects with a nice looking jab.
Nice straight punches there by Freire. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Freire.
Jab, jab by Freire - just one landing.
Freire connects with a body shot that sends Turner's belly button to the back.
Freire stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Freire wants it to stay on the feet.
Josh Turner is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Freire lands a right hook to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Freire lands a nice shot that snaps Turner's head back.
Turner shoots for a double leg takedown but Freire sprawls well. He's pushed Turner's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Freire scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Turner doesn't seem bothered though.
A left lands for Freire.
Turner fails with a takedown attempt.
Good exchange - Freire coming out on top.
Freire with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Freire throws a right and a left that both miss.
Freire comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Freire fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Patricio Freire seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Turner takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Turner walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Decent striking displayed by Freire there.


Turner is rocked!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Freire, as that shot connected.
Oh Turner is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Freire swinging wildly here.
Turner changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Turner seems to have got his legs back now.

and Freire counters with a big uppercut that knocks Turner off his feet! Freire dives into side control looking to finish!
Patricio Freire has got the better of the ground game so far.
Turner prevents Freire from improving position.
Freire has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Freire is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Turner is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Freire tries to stand but Turner is controlling his head.

Freire in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Turner is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
