PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lu Hao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Koch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jacob Koch was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lu Hao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 21 - 0, fighting out of London, Jacob Koch!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Donald Grub and William Gold.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koch throws a nice outside leg kick.
Hao will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Hao looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Hao moves out of range of the body kick.
Koch thows a left - swing and a miss!

Koch gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Hao is trying to force a seperation but Koch has the dominant position.
Koch tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
A frustrated look appears on Hao's face as he tries to break the clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Hao.
Koch has Hao pressed against the cage, preventing Hao from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Hao escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Koch lands a lovely overhand right.
Jacob Koch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hao takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice straight punches there by Koch. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Koch.
Koch dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Hao. That did some damage!
Hao changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Koch thumps Hao with a low kick.
Koch looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Hao throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Hao throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Hao connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Koch momentarily.
Koch getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Koch bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Hao takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Hao throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Koch cracks Hao with an open hand slap.
Koch walks into a jab.
Jacob Koch is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Some bone on bone action there as Hao checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Koch jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Koch tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hao looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Koch throws a poor cross that misses
and Hao counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A slow jab from Hao misses its intended target.
Koch tries to counter with a clinch but Hao shakes him off and moves away.
Koch with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Koch jabbing away but nothing is landing.
An attempted straight right counter from Hao misses the target.
Hao misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A thudding body kick lands there by Koch!
Hao sizes up Koch with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Koch is looking to clinch.
Koch connects with a single shot there.

Koch clinches up with Hao and pushes him back against the cage.
Koch lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
A frustrated look appears on Hao's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Koch keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hao's efforts to push away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Koch scores with a shoulder strike.
Hao has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Koch misses with a punch to the body.
Hao tries to circle away but Koch has him pinned against the cage.
Koch tries to throw a body punch but Hao avoids it by throwing Koch back against the cage.
Koch effectively controlling the action here.

Hao manages to break the clinch.
Koch keeps Hao at a distance using the push kick.
Koch leaves Hao with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A low kick from Koch misses
and Hao counters with a nice uppercut.
Koch scores with a nice strike.
Koch throws a leg kick but Hao checks it.
Hao moves out of range of the body kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Good exchange - Koch coming out on top.
Hao takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lu Hao. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Koch throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Koch fails to land with a series of punches.
Koch throws an overhand right that lands on Hao's shoulder, as Hao tries to avoid the shot.
Hao feinted with a counter takedown.
Koch wants to clinch.
Hao lands a leg kick that knocks Koch off balance momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jacob Koch dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Hao scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Hao is trying to ground and pound but Koch uses the momentary lack of control by Hao to regain half guard.
Hao not doing much here.
Koch wants to improve his position but Hao is controlling well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Koch is controlling Hao's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Hao looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hao wants to lay and pray for a moment but Koch keeps working.
Koch has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Koch trying to control but Hao postures up.
Hao trying to advance position but Koch counters by regaining guard.
Hao throws an elbow that misses. Koch uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hao's guard. Nice move by Koch!

Koch trying to control the position from guard on top but Hao is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Koch avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hao is on top in guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hao accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hao looking to sit in guard and control but Koch gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Koch controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Koch tries to free his leg and advance position but Hao is retaining full guard.

Koch has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Hao to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Koch is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Hao pulls down on the head and he's put Koch to sleep! This one is all over!
