The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Za darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Hillman is defending against the submission attempts here by Za.
Za seems to be working for a kimura but Hillman defends the submission attempt. My spies in Montreal Athletic Center 5* spar inform me that Za has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Za controlling the pace. Za works his foot free and advances to mount. Za looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hillman prevents Za from taking his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Za controlling the pace for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hillman can't escape the position.
Za content just to control the position here. Za is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Hillman has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Hillman! Za is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Hillman rolls with it to try and escape but Za cranks on the arm and Hillman is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ai Za! Ai Za managed to slip a mention for his sponsors, Rebel Pride Clothing. Everything in STOCK $5, into his post fight interview.
