PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Scott Keene (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Krause (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Krause has chosen Heart of a Champion as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Keene!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, James Krause!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Chris Edwards and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Krause throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Keene tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Krause is in Keene's guard.
Krause wants to control from the top but Keene keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Krause trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Krause controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Krause passes Keene's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Krause is working for a submission of some sort.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Keene is trying to stand back up but Krause is controlling him
Krause wants to take a breather but Keene is having none of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Krause is looking for a kimura but Keene is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Krause to get the leverage.

Krause wants to work for an arm triangle but Keene is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Krause is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Keene has managed to free his arm - good work.
Keene is positioning himself well to prevent Krause advancing to mount.
Keene is trying to stand up here but Krause is controlling him well.
Keene is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Rusterman's that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Krause slows the pace down in half guard.
Keene tries to get to full guard but Krause has control of the leg.
Krause wants to free his trapped foot but Keene is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Krause is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Keene is not content to let Krause control the position.
Krause wants to free his trapped foot but Keene is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Krause is working for a kimura but Keene is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Krause looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Keene is not content to let Krause control the position.

Krause is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Keene has managed to free his arm - good work.
Keene is looking to escape.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Krause in particular looking to stall.
Keene is refusing to be controlled, as Krause sits in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Keene is trying to stand up here but Krause is controlling him well.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Krause is working for a kimura but Keene is defending it quite comfortably.

Krause is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Krause is looking to pass Keene's guard but actually Keene recovers to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Keene wants to stand but Krause is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Krause dominated that round.
That's time! Keene's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Krause throws a right hand that misses
and Keene counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Krause shoots and misses
enabling Keene to counter with a crisp jab.

Krause darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Krause has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Krause is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Keene has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Keene!

Krause has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Keene can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Krause looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Krause is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Keene is aware though and is defending well.
Krause trying to keep a closed guard but Keene is proving a slippery customer.

Krause is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Keene defends well.

Krause has his foot on Keene's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Keene works his way back into a safe position though.
Krause has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Keene slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Krause looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Keene has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Krause is looking for a triangle but Keene pushes his legs off easily.

Krause working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Keene doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Keene manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Krause escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Keene gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Krause working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Keene doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Krause is tightening it up a little... Keene has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Keene reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Keene taps out! Nice BJJ there by Krause!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). James Krause!
James Krause very nearly forgot to thank Sun-Tzu amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
