Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Trey Pickett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Palacios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Steve Palacios was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Palacios! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pickett tries to close the distance and clinch up but Palacios swats him away and circles back towards the center. Pickett tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Palacios misses with a head kick.
Steve Palacios seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Pickett shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Palacios as he jumps to the side. Palacios drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Palacios grinds an elbow into Pickett's temple. Palacios is trying to get an arm triangle but Pickett is defending well. Palacios tries for a kimura but Pickett is defending well. Pickett is trying to control Palacios's posture but Palacios avoids it. Palacios looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Palacios tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Palacios has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Palacios looks gassed!
That's one minute gone in the round. Pickett can't do much from the bottom here. Palacios looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Palacios creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Pickett sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Palacios has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. You can see the frustration on Pickett's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Pickett has taken the fight to the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Pickett drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Pickett has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Palacios uses from the top position. Pickett has his foot on Palacios's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Palacios works his way back into a safe position though. Pickett not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Palacios drops back, looking for a kneebar! Pickett looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Pickett looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Pickett! Pickett is looking to take a break and control but Palacios is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Palacios tries to improve position but can't. Pickett wants to control but Palacios is keeping him busy. Palacios is looking for a sweep. Pickett decides to stand back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pickett closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Pickett lands in his opponent's guard. Palacios keeping moving, preventing Pickett from controlling successfully. Palacios escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pickett gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Pickett content to stall in guard here. Pickett trying to control but Palacios is working from the bottom. Pickett forces his way into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Palacios actively working from the bottom here. Pickett wants to lay and pray for a moment but Palacios keeps working. Pickett wants to pass to mount but Palacios is defending the position. Pickett seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pickett is tying to control. Palacios wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Trey Pickett just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Palacios tries to clinch and Pickett counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Pickett. Palacios gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Pickett.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Trey Pickett will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Palacios misses with a takedown and Pickett holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Palacios changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Pickett fights it off and pushes away nicely.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trey Pickett. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pickett can't get the takedown.
Pickett tries to score a body lock takedown but Palacios shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Pickett jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Palacios walks away with a smile on his face. Pickett gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Palacios scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Palacios moves nicely into side control. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Pickett struggling a bit here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Palacios working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Pickett manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Pickett is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Pickett manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Pickett has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Palacios can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Palacios thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Palacios drives through and clinches with Pickett against the cage.
Pickett is working for takedown but Palacios is calmly controlling the position for now. Pickett is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Palacios pulls him back up using the underhooks. Palacios is trying to trip Pickett. He has hold of a leg but Pickett is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Palacios persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Palacios stopping the sweep attempt from Pickett.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Palacios drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Palacios jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Palacios postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Pickett has his foot on Palacios's thigh. Palacios pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Pickett tumbling to the mat - Palacios dives into Pickett's guard. Palacios is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Palacios thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Palacios with a flurry of punches that miss. Pickett throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Steve Palacios showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Palacios is thwarting Pickett's attempts to control the position. Pickett is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Palacios pulls his head out easily. Pickett gets full guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Palacios is in close to Pickett's body, working some short punches and elbows. Palacios postures up.

Pickett is really struggling to control Palacios but he's trying to hold on to the position. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Palacios's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Palacios postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Pickett is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Palacios, into his guard. Palacios can't keep his opponent in guard - Pickett advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Palacios is looking to improve his position.
Pickett is keen to just control but Palacios is a slippery customer.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Pickett moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Palacios. Palacios gets back to half guard. Pickett is working for a kimura but Palacios is defending it quite comfortably.

And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Steve Palacios. Well Palacios has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
