Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ronnie McDowell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bas Severn!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Hirohito Nitta and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDowell lands a two punch combo.

McDowell shoots in and bounces Severn off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
McDowell scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
McDowell connects with a nice looking jab.
Bas Severn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McDowell throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

McDowell changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Severn looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
McDowell works to advance to full mount. Severn defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

McDowell closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

McDowell uses his free foot to push down on Severn's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Severn.
McDowell fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
McDowell unloads with some shots from mount but Severn bucks and avoids them well.
McDowell postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Severn looks a forlorn figure.


It looks like Bas Severn has been cut.
Ronnie McDowell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
McDowell lands a big shot there that rocks Severn but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Severn is squirming around, avoiding McDowell's attempts to control the action.

McDowell has control of Severn's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Severn regains control of the situation pretty easily.

McDowell misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ronnie McDowell will probably get the nod.
