PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Do Hoo Jung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Con Fidence (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Do Hoo Jung!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Con Fidence!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Bart Greer and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fidence misses with a kick to the body

and Jung counters with a shoot takedown. Fidence fights it but they end up in guard.

Jung drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jung jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Fidence is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jung postures up.
Fidence being controlled here, momentarily.

Jung thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Fidence really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jung. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jung trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jung trying to control but Fidence is working from the bottom.
Jung advances to half guard.
Fidence is staying active underneath Jung, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jung is looking for a kimura but Fidence is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jung to get the leverage.
Jung trying to pass the guard but Fidence defending well.
Fidence makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Fidence.

Jung drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jung jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jung postures up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Fidence can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jung avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Jung advances position into side control!

Jung has hold of Fidence's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Fidence tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Jung cranks the arm and Fidence screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Fidence, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Do Hoo Jung!
Do Hoo Jung retains his welterweight title!
