PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Benny Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonthan Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Henry has chosen hit em up as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Benny Perez has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Benny Perez seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Benny Perez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jonthan Henry !
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Emerson Jorge and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Henry moves into the clinch successfully.
Perez on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Henry unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Henry lands a good knee to the midsection. Perez won't want to take too many of those.
Henry is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Perez gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Henry obliges.

Perez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Henry 's waist but Henry gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Perez off to one side.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Henry takes the fight into the clinch.

Perez gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Henry .

Henry has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Perez after a bit of a struggle.

Perez is working for takedown but Henry is calmly controlling the position for now.

Henry goes for a takedown attempt but Perez pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Henry shoots in looking for a takedown but Perez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Henry 's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Perez wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Henry tries to score a power double leg takedown but Perez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Henry somewhat.

Henry fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Perez tries to counter by clinching up but Henry breaks away and moves out of range.

Perez is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Perez misses with a shot to the kidneys.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Henry shoots in but Perez avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Henry closes the distance and clinches up with Perez, looking for a takedown. Henry pushes Perez against the cage but Perez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Benny Perez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonthan Henry .
Henry changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Perez tries to avoid it but Henry manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Perez to the ground. Perez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Perez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Henry did well to prevent Perez getting side control.

Perez seems to be looking for submissions.
Henry is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Perez is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Henry sees it coming and defends easily.

Perez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Henry gets full guard.
Henry is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Henry 's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Perez tries to get to full guard but Henry has control of the leg.
Henry content to control rather than advance.

The adventures of Henry the control monster continue. Boring.
Perez won't allow Henry to pass to mount.
Henry stalling.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Perez scores with a takedown into Henry 's guard.
Perez trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Henry keeping moving, preventing Perez from controlling successfully.
Henry bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Perez's guard.

Henry is stalling in the full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Let's hope that Henry has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That was a close second round but I would say that Benny Perez will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Henry seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Henry has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Perez trying to hold on to Henry 's head to control him but Henry postures up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Henry is taking a breather. Perez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Yet more stalling tactics from Henry .
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Perez gets tackled into the cage by Henry . Henry maintains the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Henry goes for a takedown attempt but Perez pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jonthan Henry comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Henry has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A less than humble Jonthan Henry misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
