The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shigeki Sano and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manjuelez wants to clinch
and Manjuelez takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Mela connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Antero Mela seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Manjuelez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mela swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Manjuelez wants to control from the top but Mela keeps moving.
Manjuelez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mela lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Manjuelez tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mela drops back looking for a leg! Manjuelez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Manjuelez manages to kick Mela off! Mela jumps back into Manjuelez's guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Manjuelez wants to improve his position but Mela is controlling well.
Mela uses his free foot to push down on Manjuelez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Manjuelez.

Mela lands a couple of good shots and Manjuelez has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Mela has the hooks in. Manjuelez is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Manjuelez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mela. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
